Highlights include champion short horn Gary Junick and fifth place Anguis group in Livestock Judging, fire demonstration team red award, Roy Mhass champion at Solux City Interstate, Don Treinen named champion Beef Showman, and Spencer livestock judging team taking first place. The 4-H year begins October 1 with officers being elected and Home Grounds Improvement named as the coming year's special project.

Edward C. Willging, longtime Le Mars jeweler, died at 4 Dubuque hospital on September 27 at age 92. Funeral services were held September 30 with Father Cecil Friedman officiating. Burial under Wiltgen-Luedike funeral home direction will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. He and his late son once operated the jewelry store now run by Kenneth Fry. Survivors include grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his wife, two sons Harold and Edward Jr., and a granddaughter.
