Glen Gabel recovers after a car gathering operation. Bryant from LeMars hires men to raise a new windmill after previous ones were blown down in a recent windstorm. Lois Locer visits Lois Gabel, Faye Gabel hosts Friendship Club, and several locals travel to Homer Nebraska and Jones County. Attendees include Borchers, Marbach, Laughton, Luiken, Marcue, Morse, Jeffers, Johnsons, Reisin, Meins, and Mohan with various weekend visits and a regional grocery merchants association convention in Sioux City.
Remsen gains visitors from Belle Plaine Sioux City Tripp and Gettysburg as residents tour relatives homes and attend events. Albert Stoeber Tony Lenertz and others call on friends and family in Remsen while Chas Peters F E Wentz plan trips to Spencer and Alton.
Creighton University medical sophomore Roman Fisch heads to Omaha while several families from LeMars and surrounding towns are noted on visits, shopping trips, and gatherings. Events include card parties, church group activities, dinners, a funeral, and kinship visits across Iowa and Minnesota.
America Earnest Weber bought a new car. Mr and Mrs Chas Kellen were dinner guests at the Steve Kellen home last Tuesday. Tom Cain received help from friends for his September 18 birthday. Mr and Mrs Clem Freking of Granville visited at the Clem Freking Sr home in LeMars Thursday. Miss Kate Roerig of LeMars has been on the sick list. Currie Minnesota visitors called on George Schnepf. Mr and Mrs Frank Holzmann and daughters and Frank Holzmann Jr visited Louis Guntzen Friday evening. Miss Mary Feldman, visiting relatives, returned to Sioux City Friday. John Deters and daughter Josephine visiting relatives in Salem South Dakota. Joe and Leo Dreckman and families and Frank Holzmann Jr motored to Emerson Nebraska to visit Joe Starz’s home Sunday. Mr and Mrs Emil Koopman entertained relatives from Dyersville at dinner Monday evening. George Schnepf shelled corn Monday. Mr and Mrs Nic Goetzinger and little son were Oyens visitors Sunday.
The Excelsior Literary Society presented a Friday evening program for new students and faculty themed Follow the flaming torch. The flaming torch emblem was the central motif, with a gilded torch aflame, greenery hedge, and purple and white festoons in Excelsior colors completing the decor. Four talks followed the display.
The event features a four directional torch display led by East Silence Broods and others, with a male quartet and Our Excelsior Band performing classic tunes. Roberta Dexheimer heads entertainment while Harttie Menke, Alice Mannetter oversee decorations and program planning. light refreshments follow.
