Ralph Vondrak of Hinton claimed the champion Shorthorn with Champ Short, and Helen Wolf of Remsen earned reserve champion at the 4 H Interstate Livestock Show in Sioux City September 19 to 21. Darwin Brink of Merrill won second in heavy weight swine and second in showmanship. Vernon Mayrose of Remsen paired two pigs in heavy weight red ribbon class. Wesley Noble earned red ribbons on a litter and one barrow. Plymouth County entries totaled 45 animals.

Plymouth county calves competed in two weight classes across Shorthorn and Angus divisions with champions Ralph Vondrak and Helen Wolf noted in senior Shorthorn and junior Angus wins by Ronald Junck and Kay Vondrak. Led by Arden Anderson and his twin Heather Aden, the team defeated Sioux Center by 12 in the final after a semi final win when Sibley forfeited. The squad features several brother pairs including the Nadersens, Dudsen, and McDougal, with Ray, Mohning, and Bonnema among key players and Terry Reyelis as player coach.

Sibley Youths Hurt In Dead End Crash
Five teens from Sibley were injured when a 1936 Ford crash occurred at a dead end road northeast of Alton while returning from Akron Remsen after watching a football game. Driver Lester Pass 28 failed to see the dead end. injuries included cuts and a clipped tooth, with rescue by Art Fall and Alvin. Pass, Marie Judas 19, Barbara Brune son 19, Elaine Sleeper 18, Jonas Sullivan 20.

Farmer Edwin Hillrichs Dies Sudden At Akron Home
Edwin Hillrichs a well known farmer nine miles northeast of Akron died suddenly around 8:00 p m Sunday at his father's Akron home where he and his family were staying. The 39 year old was stricken with a heart attack as he lay down to sleep with one of his children. Survived by his wife three children his aged father five brothers and three sisters funeral services were held Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran church Hawarden with interment at Riverside cemetery.
