Democrats of Fredonia Township will meet in caucus at Center schoolhouse on Friday evening, Sept. 2, to choose five delegates to the county convention and nominate a township ticket. T. IkxLosver, Chairman.
The First National Bank of Remsen, capital 30000, will succeed the Farmers and Merchants Bank and commence business October 1 as a leading county institution. An examination of applicants for mail carrier duty when free delivery begins in November was held Saturday at the High school building conducted by C. E. Doss of Sioux City. Applicants were tested in spelling reading geography arithmetic copying and address reading. Successful names will be announced in weeks after papers are sent to Washington. A 70 percent score and a physician's certificate of fitness were required. The Monday regular session opened bids for paving. Hamlin & Flynn of Sioux City offered 2.00 per yard for Gallsburg brick and 100 per lineal foot for curbs and gutters with 65 cents for curbs alone. Council rejected the bid, hoping for bids near 1.80 per yard and noting curbing costs were higher than local rates.
The season opens October 17 with a Chicago Madrigal Club concert, one of ten grand west coast performances. Twenty four top Chicago vocalists perform unaccompanied madrigals with a tenor violinist and pianist for variety. Highlights include Dr D F Fox and Elizabeth Stuart Phelps readings, plus new works by Dr Thomas Green. Season tickets go on sale next Monday at 8 am with reserved seats and unchanged prices of 1.40 for adults and one canta for schoolchildren.
Miss Elizabeth Wilhelm daughter of Mr and Mrs Adam Wilhelm and Louis M Etzel were united in marriage Tuesday morning September 22 at St Josephs church. The couple will reside on a farm east of Merrill Iowa. Over five hundred attended the festivities and a large wedding present list accompanied the event.
