A reader describes hearing the Union Hall boys serenading the girls of Wernli hall after the WAC Arkansas Tech football game last Friday night. The note praises the music heard from the sleeping porch across the street and reflects on the lighthearted campus moment.

Miss Beulah Bainbridge and T-5 Jerry Spink wed August 28 in Elk Point M D. Attendants were Miss Audrey Moser and Dorris R. Bainbridge. After a west coast trip Mrs. Spink returns to Kingsley. Mr. Spink to Fort Flagler Washington. Margaret Smyth and Dr Richard Emmons wed in Fort Dodge Monday Sept 1 in a single ring ceremony at First Methodist. Reverend Arcasmith officiated. A breakfast reception followed. couple honeymoon to an undisclosed destination. Emmons, a University of Iowa graduate, will be a junior in medical college. Mrs Emmons is a Cornell College alumna and university junior.
Miss Frances W. Ward, daughter of Clyde and Mrs Ward, wed Don B. Taylor son of H L Taylor at the parsonage of Dr and Mrs Frank G Bean on Sunday September 14 at 10 am. The single ring ceremony was performed by Dr Bean in front of a fireplace with only relatives present. Harold L. Taylor Jr. served as best man. The bride wore a fuchsia dress with black accessories and white carnations. her attendant wore grey with pink carnations. Mr Taylor attended Hinton schools and Morningside College.

Clarence Ball and Wayne Ostland announce in today’s Globe Post they have purchased the right to operate Orange City’s roller skating rink and all equipment except the building from Adrian Schalekamp. The rink will run as before with a focus on fun. An opening party is planned for Wednesday night under new management.
Castana Iowa voters backed renewal of the Iowa Public Service Company electric franchise for 25 years by 52 to 6. The Marcus News notes the company has served Castana for years and that nineteen other towns have granted renewals in the past two years with wide margins. No refusals have occurred in that period, say company officials.
Mrs. Henry Vander Mei died September 10, 1947, at her daughter’s home in Hawarden Iowa after a stroke. Born in Friesland Netherlands, she married Henry Vander Mei in 1893. Survived by nine children and many grandchildren, with funeral September 138 at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, burial in the local cemetery.
Albert Van Otterloo, born November 18 1874 in Holland Michigan, died September 11 1947 after a brief illness at age 72 years 9 months 24 days. He married Annie Schaap February 27 1900, and leaves four children Steven Orange City John Denver Lydia Starkenburg Alton Elizabeth Doleslager Le Mars, plus his step mother Mrs Steven S Van.

The obituary notes Herman Otterlo and family members including Rick Valley Alice Gerrit Hoeskstra of Rock Valley Johan nes Hawarden and Gerrit Holland Mich, Peter Grand Rapids, Grace Sioux Center. Twenty one grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceded in death by a brother 17 years ago. Funeral services held Monday at 1 o'clock at the house and 1 30 at the Christian Reformed church in Orange City with Rev Bronkema officiating. Burial at the local cemetery. The Van Otterloos formerly farmed west of Sioux Center.
Bass stocking in Mill Creek supervised by Frank Starr, a game warden from Storm Lake. 250 smallmouth bass were planted Saturday, with additional fish from the Hum and more planned to be stocked later.
Marcus News reports the town now has a pasteurized milk plant in a 24x36 foot cement block building built for pasteurization. The plant features a pasteurizer two walk in coolers a steam boiler a separator and other equipment. Wayne Marcus bought the dairy business from his brother Carl a year ago and completed the plant despite shortages. The dairy sources raw milk from Arthur Dorr and Lowell Parks farms and serves the Marcus route as well as Cleghorn and local retailers.
Kenneth F. Neu of the Public Safety Department’s Safety Responsibility Division reminds town motorists they will begin driving under the new Safety Responsibility Law come October 1. The measure introduces the expanded responsibilities for drivers and affects state traffic enforcement across municipalities.
Neu, speaking on the new statute, notes it targets drivers who avoid damages payments. The measure seeks penalties for at fault motorists when accidents occur and licenses are suspended for serious violations. The division will begin work once reports from initial crashes arrive.
