Corn Borer War Reshapes Ontario and Ohio Cropping

The text notes a drastic shift from corn to barley, tobacco, cannery crops and clover as 100000 acres drop to 8000. Hogs shrink about 50 percent while corn fails to mature in Ontario after June 10 due to borers. In Windsor sweet corn is commercially ruined by borers. Ohio experiments with 800+ corn varieties to find resistant types. The battle becomes cleanup and control, implying future farming changes and a 20 year lag for parasites to affect numbers.
