Fine Barn Struck by Lightning Near LeMars
George Buehler of Struble road north of LeMars suffered a heavy loss when his barn was struck by lightning at five o clock Sunday morning and burned with its contents. Six fine work horses escaped. hay and equipment burned. The fire could have been worse if nearby wheat stacks hadn’t been soaked by rain. Loss estimated near $2000. insurance with Plymouth County Mutual stood at $700, leaving a gap due to extended damage.

Northwest Iowa Chautauqua winter lecture series announced
The Northwest Iowa Chautauqua association arranged a six lecture course to be held at the opera house on October 8 November 28 February 7 and March 4 with tickets priced 2.00 for adults and 1.50 for students under 18. The official program and opera house plan will be shown at the city library Thursday Friday and Saturday and the librarian will sell tickets. The course is described as very strong and demand for tickets is expected to be high.

Obituary: Solomon Wheeler of LeMars Dies at Farm
Solomon Wheeler a longtime LeMars resident died at the farm early Sunday at an advanced age. A Sioux County homesteader in the sixties he lived in LeMars over thirty years. He was twice married, his first wife died over twenty five years ago. His second wife and he separated many years ago. He left a daughter Mrs Ferry of Sioux City and Frank A Wheeler of Rock Rapids as relatives. Two brothers once wealthy jombermen in the area were noted by locals.

Young Man In Sioux Township Adjudged Insane
John Collin, living with brother in law Pat Coleman in Sioux township, has been insane for seven or eight months. Deputies took him Sunday to LeMara jail, then ordered to Cherokee after a Tuesday insanity exam. He showed anger, damaged items, and hid in hills, crossing the Big Sioux to Dakota hills during escape efforts.

LeMars Traveling Men Win Big Parade Prize
The LeMars traveling men dominated Sioux City’s traveling men day winning first prize of fifty dollars for the town outside Sioux City with the most travelers in the grand street parade. Fifty-eight strong they impressed spectators as they marched. Alex Weir of LeMars won best turnout with a unicorn hitch. At Inter-State fair grounds horse show Sam Harvey of Union township placed third in carriage horse class. R Evans of LeMars took second in gentlemen single road horse. Harvey was third.
