(A Special Correspondent) Mr and Mrs Joe Donlin and son Larry returned Monday evening from Stordon Minn visiting Mrs Donlins brother Lewis Hoffmann and family. Mrs Dick Laughton and daughter Barbara were supper guests in Elmer Lents home. Mrs Elmer Lentz and daughter Janet visited the Laughtons. Mrs P Beckman and daughter Eleanor were guests in the Laughton home. Rev and Mrs K M Bauer were Sioux City callers. Mrs Frank Donlin visited her sister Mrs John Ruhland. Mrs W F Heissel and Miss Elizabeth Heissel hosted a miscellaneous shower for Miss Luella Heissel. Miss Josephine Merkel of Minneapolis visiting Hoffmann and Donlin. Ronald Knapp and Bob Knapp visited relatives from California and returned Monday. Miss Delores Hauswald visited grandparents Wilhelmi in the area. Agriculture day at Merrill drew many local attendees. Mrs Gust Danne hosted a large shower for her daughter Evelyn De Lair, with visiting Sioux City guests and many gifts. A two course luncheon closed the afternoon.
The court declares a will and codicil for Adrian Holster deceased and sets October 13, 1939 at 10 a.m. for final proof and hearing. A LeMars Sunday picnic honored Misses Dorothy and Frances Johnson of Los Angeles. Additional visits linked the Wellong, Baack, and Gerdes families as house duties and a marriage announcement surfaced among relatives.
Miss Anna Siege of Seattle arrived for a two week visit with relatives here. Mrs. Rose came back from Wagner South Dakota after a month attending to business. Earnest Beck of Geddes South Dakota was in town midweek. The Farmers Elevator undergoes remodeling with new machinery. D M Mentzer and Will Schwier visited the Sioux City market early in the week.
A Cedar Rapids wedding united Miss Bernice Elaine Mieras and James Thomas Van Orsdol at First Congregational Church with Rev. William A. Jacobs officiating. The ceremony featured lilies, gladiolas and pompoms, organist Marjorie Hungerford, singer Ruth Magsey, and a reception to follow. The couple plan a Black Hills honeymoon and will reside in Cedar Rapids. Van Orsdol works at Wilson Packing.
Grant Minnie von Hagel accompanied Rev and Mrs Martin Schultz to their home at Titonia Iowa on Tuesday. She will visit there for about a week. Emory Collins of LeMars edged Gus Schrader of Cedar Rapids by a narrow margin in the feature race at Spencer Speedway. The 25 lap event drew a large crowd as Collins used superior turns to reclaim the lead. Schrader led most of the race but Collins timed his turns to rally ahead. Collins also placed second in an 8 lap race after drawing last starting position, while Schrader won the first heat of a two heat program.

Zip Zimmerman pitched for Wells and Phillips 66 secured the title after knocking off Dr. Pepper last week. Wells had won the prior game in the playoff quest, but Phillips 66 dominated the finale to claim the crown.
