Floyd Valley Watershed Association held a membership meeting in Orange City with about 100 attendees led by President George Eason. Congressman Charles Hoeven spoke on flood control bills and projected authorization for the Floyd Valley Project, while Colonel T S Hayes outlined Pick-Sloan plans and soil conservation as flood control. Membership prizes and social hour followed with prizes awarded for memberships and attendance.

Over September 10 to 12 area 4-H club members exhibited calves pigs lambs and other projects at the Sioux City Baby Beef and Barrow Show and sale. Winners from Nebraska South Dakota and Minnesota competed for championship honors and substantial sale proceeds while Central Public Market staff praised a year of hard work and looked toward tomorrow's leaders.
Public invited to hear Vice President Richard M. Nixon speak in Sioux City on the date announced. Nixon is expected to address topics of national concern and greet local residents at the community event.
A major campaign event in Sioux City features Vice President Nixon on Saturday September 22 in a five and a half hour swing through Iowa Nebraska and South Dakota. Nixon speaks at 1:45 p.m. after a 9:30 a.m. arrival and a civic welcome including Shrine White Horse Patrol and Sons of the Legion. Attendees include Republican leaders from the three states plus district officials and national reporters.
Ed Reinking and Son of Kingsley sold 35 hogs weighing 213 pounds at 16.25 dollars per hundred. Leland Spies of Merrill moved 25 hogs at 206 pounds for 16.35. Ray Krier of Remsen offered 80 hogs at 219 pounds for 16.25. Elmer Varenhorst of Le Mars sold 42 hogs at 220 pounds for 16.10. Herman A. Renken of Le Mars disposed of 24 heifers weighing 807 pounds at 23.25.
Marion Shane of Iowa Falls was hospitalized after diving into shallow water in Minnesota injuring neck and shoulders. A Grundy Center group narrowly escaped drowning at Clear Lake when a fishing barge capsized. life jackets kept them afloat until rescued. The party included Delbert Meyer family and Fred Everts family with Champ Harms Jr. of George. Champ Harms Jr. won the national junior clay target championship at Vandalia Ohio after a shoot off with Carl Jacobsen of Oakland, California.
