The Unionist and Public Forum notes Wallace M Short has retired to a new stance aligned with the communist dominated PAC. Short attacks Hoeven on anti-Communist speech at Moyle and denies the PAC campaign is part of a Communist drive to gain control.
A 215 page report by the Special Committee on Un-American Activities details ties among the C SO P A C and Moscow. It alleges bank record exposures and union leaders working with the CIO and PAC to subvert the government. It singles out Marcantonio and Pepper as examples of radical influence.

On Tuesday September 10 Mr and Mrs Herman A Renkens of Ireton were honored on their silver wedding day. They had as guests for supper their children including multiple generations and friends in a family celebration.

Cherokee Chief Emil Fischer of Perry sues Alfred Eggert of Cherokee in district court for 6180.16 for injuries, hospital expenses, property damage and lost wages from a May 1 auto collision on Main Street caused by an unlawfully parked Eggert vehicle. Passenger Alvina Heider recently won 16714.50 against Revert for injuries from the same crash.
A real estate deal made Jack Pine sole owner of Ben's Feed Store and the building. Zen Magness, now of Miller, opened the business two years ago and had managed it with Pine. Ping family members, including Robert Pine of Blunt, D, bought Marienay Drug Store from Win Marienay. Plans include new stock and a possible Variety Store in formation with the President Business. The Pings are Ireton High School graduates. Bob recently returned from service.
Mr and Mrs Andrew Carsten sen return from a westward sightseeing tour visiting Casper Wyoming where he once herded sheep and noting Casper’s growth. They traveled via Denver El Paso Perry Oklahoma and Oklahoma oil well where they sampled first oil. They report abundant cattle and feed amid meat shortages. The 8rd Order of St Francis meets Sept 18 at Sacred Heart Hospital 1:45.
In Le Mars a gathering honored Mrs. Walsh, a Plymouth County resident for 68 years, with old friends recounting dances from 65 years ago. Attendees ranged from 80 to 86 years old, including Mrs. Mary Lanners and Miss Nora Buckley, while 73 relatives joined for a long afternoon and evening lunch. Mrs. Walsh credited her long life to hard work, education for her children, and a cheerful outlook.
A 160 acre Grundy county farm from the Ella Coulter estate sold for 57,500 dollars. The land brings 358 dollars per acre and is described as highly cultivated with a corn crib on site. The seller notes many similar 160 acre farms in Grundy county.
John Robinet and Mr and Mrs Jack Beever with son Jimmy and Mr and Mrs Al Harpenau drove to Minneapolis last week to attend the Saturday wedding of Miss Jeane Bell to Francis Heitzman. The bridegroom is son of A D Heitzman of Minneapolis and grandson of Mr Robinet and nephew of Mesdames Boever and Harpenau.
Special-Ivan Dull son of E H Dull of Cherokee and brother of Burton Dull of Le Mars has joined radio station KROS in Clinton Iowa as a radio mechanic. He began September 1 and the Clinton station is part of the Tall Corn network with a nationwide hookup. He earned an electrical engineering degree at Ames and served as a Navy instructor in his last year. He spent a week in Iowa City with younger brother Max who will attend the University of Iowa as he starts his second college year.
Weinrich families held a reunion at the Community grounds in Hinton last Sunday. A dinner was served in the hall honoring Mr and Mrs Harold Thompson and daughter Betty Lou of Klammouth Falls.

A thunder storm struck early Monday morning and lightning set a large cattle barn and shed on the farm home of Mrs. Phil E. Held, two miles southeast of Hinon, ablaze. Hog, hay, and farm equipment owned by Leonard Schultz, renter of the property, were destroyed. No wind prevented wider destruction.
The Stanton-America Township farm women held an organization tea at Helen Lentz's home on Wednesday September 11 at 1 30 in the afternoon. After saxophone selections by Mrs Hodgson with Mrs R Berner, officers for the new year were elected including Township Chairman Mrs R Berner Music Chairman Mrs R Hodgson School Chairman Mrs Elmer Lentz International Relations for Peace Mrs Walter Kehrberg Library Chairman Mrs George Schnepf Health Chairman Mrs Chas Steele Publicity Chairman Mrs Elmer Hoff man.
The group plans the year in a October meeting led by chair Mrs George Schrepf and secretary Mrs Steipflug. Several members including Mrs Joe Day Elmer Lentz and Mrs Elmer Hofman contribute book selections for the Month Club. A light luncheon followed the discussion.
Dr H L Donnan, formerly of Council Bluffs, plans to practice dentistry in the Alton Vander Maaten building starting October first. He has equipment and expects office space, living quarters nearby, and may later locate a beauty operator in the same building.
Mary Walsh of 520 1st St SW celebrated her 90th birthday as more than 150 relatives and friends gathered from Seattle Chicago Milwaukee Sioux City and nearby to honor her. Coming from six cities her six sons and her daughter were present for the first time since 1931. Edward arrived from Seattle James and his wife from Chicago with grandson Billy John and his wife from Chicago William and his wife from Milwaukee among others.
