Bidders included Booth and Olson with the winning bid of 359 thousand dollars for a paving program in Sioux City. The project estimated cost was 332 thousand 806 dollars with 30 foot wide paving and 6 inches of depth. Completion was required by July 1 1950 and property owners face 257 thousand 535 dollars of assessment while 448 thousand 267.50 dollars comes from the metal tax fund.

Rodenbour Funeral Planned for Remsen Area Resident
Rodenbour, aged 59 years 13 days, died after living north of Remsen for 13 years. He married Helen Farso in Chicago on September 18, 1929 and leaves a daughter Dorothy. Survivors include two fathers Nick and Leo of Le Mars, three sisters Susan Lend Theresa Witson and Amelia Plendl, and a Luxembourger club member. A WWI veteran he was a member of IVW and the Luxemburtt Brotherhood. Funeral arrangements are by Remsen funeral home.

Plow Terrace Winners Represent South Dakota at Nationals
Watertown South Dakota hosted the plow terrace contest with 18 contestants from 13 counties. Prizes of 100 and 75 went to Quinton Nelson Akron and Burton Cole Brandon for first and second place. Bernard Frantzen Dell Rapids Moody county, RD Feenstra Davis County, and George Meiers Avon Bon Homme county took third to fifth. About 2000 people attended. the event was sponsored by the Watertown Chamber of Commerce and soil conservation groups. The winners will travel to West Point Nebraska for the national contest next Tuesday.

Boy Runaway Case Intercepts Near Le Mars
Police nabbed a 17 year old boy wandering in Le Mars on Tuesday dawn. Officer Martin Wanderscheid held the youth until Sheriff Frank Scho ler could take over for investigation. The boy gave the name Harlan Bergland of Kearney Nebraska and was found to be wanted for running away from Plymouth county homes. He is being fed until arrangements for return are made.

Hundreds of teachers attend Cherokee Plymouth Woodbury conference
County superintendent Christine Petersen reports about 750 teachers from Cherokee Plymouth and Woodbury counties joined a teachers conference at Central high school. Attendees included town and country schools, parochial schools, colleges, and about 12 sisters from parochial schools. Sioux City teachers did not attend as city schools remained open. Buckley Funeral Held for Remsen Native in Pickstown
John L Buckley 30 died suddenly of a heart condition September 13 in Pickstown South Dakota. Services held September 15 at St Marys Church LeMars burial in Ste Je Cemetery. Buckley born March 3 1918 Neola Iowa farmed in Fredonia township later moved to Pickstown as welder survivors include mother Mary Buckley Sioux City eight brothers and sisters and many in Remsen. Tractor Upheaval Kills Sutherland Farmer Lenhart 54
Arthur Lenhart, 54, a farmer near Sutherland, died after his tractor hauling a gravel load overturned. The trailer dragged the tractor causing it to jackknife and the vehicle fell, injuring him fatally. He died en route to a hospital with five children left behind.

Red Cross Holds Its Annual Meeting in Plymouth County
The Red Cross Executive Board held its first fall meeting at 4 pm with reports on summer activities. About 737 pupils enrolled in swimming classes and 326 people received various services over three months. Loans and grants to veterans, families, and civilians totaled 130.81. A shipment of 47 kapok filled ticking cushions and 47 cushion covers was produced for veterans hospitals. The chapter plans its annual dinner at the Elks Club in Le Mars on September 26 and formed committees. Mrs. Harold Taylor spoke on a Health Workshop and community health councils to improve health education.
