Local residents share visits and trips from Sioux City to Des Moines, Chicago and beyond. A string of relatives and friends arrive for visits, teaching moves, and family milestones while weather reddens the week with heavy rain and flood gaps.
J F Varner longtime Kingsley merchant died at his Iola Kansas home on August 19 leaving wife Anna Ellis Varner and children Charles Arkansas City Nellie Shullenberger Sabetha and Luella at home Local notices also report Kingsley school opening with 106 in the high school, and various residents departing for education travel or medical treatment.
N W Washington and Mrs Chas Brodie of Merrill visited at the Albert Thomas home on Thursday evening. A large crowd attended the married folks dance at Brunsville on Wednesday evening. Ben Fischer returned from a week in Lincoln Nebraska. Ed Zink is building a hog house at the Gert Leiben farm. Ben Enks and family shopped in Le Mars on Thursday. Thomas Vernon visited the John Luken home Friday. A baby girl was born Sept 10 to Mr and Mrs Sam Diediker of Brunsville. Several families visited the Gert Seibens home Thursday afternoon. Florence Manz’s home was robbed by chicken thieves Wednesday evening with no trace found. Mrs Chas Richards visited Akron on Friday. Herman Harms and family and others visited the Gert Leibens Thursday evening. Herman Hilks, formerly with Wm Borchers, now works for Herman Harms.
A series of social visits and routine trips are recorded around Preston Township. Families such as Toel, Borchers, Fischer, Johnson, and Diediker are mentioned visiting relatives, attending dances at Brunsville, and shopping in LeMars and Sioux City. A baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Diediker, and Irene Borchers returned home after an operation.
Mrs. Fl. Noahr had ten nails removed at Hawarden hospital on Wednesday. Richard Friederichs Jr. went to St Paul to study for the ministry. The Friederichs family visited Tea and Sioux Falls to see sights. John Popken and others motored to Omaha for business. Reverend Meske of Akron and Reverend Langholz of Kansas visited at the Zi bell home. Attendees at the Plymouth county vigilante association rifle and pistol shoot in Le Mars were limited. the writer notes modest turnout and modest shooting results. Yarry Webber reports dry weather near Brunsville and crop failures in Miller, South Dakota. Richard Schuldt and wife of Sioux City visited Craig. Russell Peters joined a railroad section gang. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Green visited Hawarden relatives. Mrs. Green's mother, Mrs. Crowther, stayed until Wednesday. Walker Bushby and family returned from a five day visit.
Relatives gathered at Cedar Rapids Ful lerton and Belgrade Neb. Herman BD. Jonson visited Oakdale Neb on business. Thunhorst families visited Sioux City and toured an aviation circus. Mr Thunherat rode a plane but found it short. Carl Pageler plans to farm in South Dakota near Bruce this fall or next spring. Luther League picnic at Oak Grove Hawarden. Onnie Johnson’s Ford mishap on park hill ended with tow, no injuries. Several families drove to Canton SD for a picnic and reunion, enjoying Chautauqua park all day.
SOUTH LINCOLN The Lincoln township farm bureau held its annual Labor Day picnic at Community hall with a large turnout. Events included North Lincoln girls vs Kingsley girls and North Lincoln boys vs Banner boys, a postgame win by North Lincoln, plus horse and foot races and a tug of war followed by a big evening dance with Crowley furnishing music.
