Mrs Mary Walsh aged over 65 celebrated a 91st birthday at New Deal Park in a picnic setting. Surrounded by relatives and friends, she sat in a rocker at a long picnic table with her youngest son Jamie Crowley and his family nearby, sharing a cheerful afternoon.
Mrs. Walsh hosts a yearly birthday gathering with her two sons James and Harry from Chicago, their wives, and grandson Billy, joined by relatives from Sioux City. The event ends with her farewell line I’ll see you next year marking a cherished annual tradition.
Staff Sergeant John M. White of the Sioux City Marine Corps office was in Le Mars at the post office today and will return tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday to interview young men aged 17 to 28 interested in a Marine Corps career. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. A Marine Corps representative will be in Le Mars the second week of every month. Sgt. White said younger men are especially interested in the education opportunities offered by the Marine Corps.
Funeral services were held this afternoon for Ed Lang of Remsen who died at his home on Thursday September 4. Rev Wuebben officiated at St Pauls Lutheran Church Remsen at two oclock with burial in Remsen City Cemetery under Moeller Funeral Home direction. Lang was born September 6 1887 and would have been 60 Saturday.
Two cars collided on a hilltop north and east of Le Mars around 7 p.m. Sunday. Denny Ahrendt drove west and Walter Renken came from the opposite direction. They swerved to avoid each other but still wrecked. Ahrendt’s left front face suffered about 50 dollars in damage and Renken’s left rear about 50 dollars. No injuries reported.

Miss Rita C. Sullivan daughter of Mr and Mrs F John Sullivan of Chicago Ill became the bride of Harold Mayrose son of Mr and Mrs J B Mayrose Le Mars at a ceremony in Chicago on Saturday September 6. The ceremony was performed by Father Tauérnon F Déri O C Carm. The bride wore a white satin gown with fingertip veil and seed pearl crown. The couple planned a short honeymoon to Madison Wis and will reside in Le Mars after.
A simple informal wedding took place at four o'clock Saturday afternoon September 6 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Will Lalamendre in Sergeant Bluff. Miss Mae Lalamendre and Milton G. Heyl exchanged vows in a double ring service with 60 guests in attendance. The couple plan a wedding trip to Logan Iowa and will reside in Sioux City after, with out of town guests including Ralph Heyl of Le Mars Madonna Heyl and Darrell Boettger of Akron.
Rev Ward Campbell, pastor of the Methodist church, tends a large garden southeast of the church to cut grocery costs. He swears by hard work weeding and spading nearly an acre by hand, so he fashioned a small tractor from his blacksmithing skills. He has nearly finished the build and has begun driving it.

A beauti ful all white wedding took place Sunday afternoon at St Pauls Lutheran Church in Ireton. Miss Mildred Vlotho became the bride of Walter Struck in a double ring ceremony at 3 oclock. The church was decorated with gladioli and candle light. The bride wore a white satin gown with lace, a long train, and a tiara of orange blossoms from her grandmother. Attendants included maid of honor Mrs Dean Franken and bridesmaid Mrs Alvin Horstman in all white satin. Flower girls Jean Marie Hammons and Janice Jeffers wore white taffeta gowns with pink daisies and carried nosegays.
