Bryan Addresses 20000 at Madison Square Garden in New York

William Jennings Bryan visited New York and spoke to a 20 000 strong crowd at Madison Square Garden after a warm reception at the Battery and the Victoria hotel. He outlined Democratic campaign principles, advocated rail and trust reforms, and urged federal trunk line ownership with state control of local lines. He praised Roosevelt’s ideas while emphasizing government action against trusts.

Farmers Elevator names new manager in LeMars

At a board meeting I B Gallagher of LeMars was hired to manage the Farmers Elevator association. Gallagher brings 25 years in grain trade and strong farmer ties. He will start about September 20 to prepare for buying as soon as the elevator is ready.

Severe Storm Disrupts LeMars Causes Major Property Damage

A severe Sunday storm swept LeMars injuring property across Broadway and nearby streets. It toppled brick walls at the Gateway nursery site and damaged Will Long residences, with $1500 in losses reported. Trees fell, windows broke, and hail battered plants. A lightning strike damaged a dynamo at the power plant, and rain fell for two hours. Also noted were public notices of Claude Porter’s campaign kickoff and the death of John H. Rohlfes in Grant township aged 76.
