Conservation reserve described for Iowa farmers in 1956 program

Wm M Schnepf chair of Plymouth county ASC explains that the conservation reserve will roll out in stages with full information to farmers soon. sign contracts by October 15 for 1956, or March 15 for 1957. Contracts run 3 to 15 years with annual payments around 12 dollars per acre and potential cost-sharing. Land cannot be cropped or grazed during the contract unless emergency exceptions apply. minimums set by land use and trees. County ASC will set soil bank bases per farm, restricting production of base crops. Also notes 1956 eligibility and contract terms plus local news items and notices about appointments and licenses.

Longtime linotype operator John Glenn honored in 50 years at Sentinel
