Livestock Judging School Held for Plymouth County 4-H

An all day livestock judging school for Plymouth County 4-H members was conducted at Ben F Held and Ed Held farms in Hinton on Friday August 16. Rex Beresford of Ames presented instruction on dairy cattle fat cattle draft horses and hogs with County Agent M O Monroe overseeing. The Big 4 Fair livestock contest will be held September 2 in the Livestock Pavilion. eligibility rules apply to 4 H members from Plymouth Woodbury Union or Dakota counties who have not completed college agricultural courses or placed above fifth in prior state fairs.

July 1929 Livestock Trade Totals and Shipments

In July 1929 the Producers association moved livestock worth 658,928.58 in sales and bought feeder stock totaling 6,181.46. Year to date values show purchases of feeder animals 45,475.53 and sales of 4,076,262.33, for a total business of 4,121,737.86. July shipments included 69 hog rail loads and 52 cattle loads. Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska contributed carloads from various associations, with 27 individual carloads received from four states.

Trousdale Players Plan Season With New Cast

Open the season in a good part as patrons arrange reservations for seats. Rialto Theatre Season Announces Plays and Prices

Matinees priced at 26 cents on Sundays Wednesdays and Saturdays with reserved evening seats at 50 cents. The second week features The Shannons of Broadway starring James Gleason, followed by Seventh Heaven in the third week for Rialto Theatre patrons.

Ritter Cow Tops Tri State Dairy Association Leader

In July the NEWS corrected earlier notes to credit Paul Ritter of Stanton township for the high producing grade Holstein cow in June and for the Ritter herd being the top 15 cow unit in the Tri-State Cow Testing Association. June saw 408 cows rested with 34 dry. average milk and fat fell from May while 9 cows produced over 40 pounds fat and 5 over 60 pounds fat. Harry Ostmeyer led the 15 cow division with 22 cows (one dry) at 1232 pounds milk and 36.10 pounds fat.

Poultry Culls Reported From 1929 Improvement Drive

During the week of August 12 to 17, 1929 poultry improvement work led by C. J. Brown culled 1822 hens for production data. Of these, 223 were culled, 510 warmed, and 1322 tested for white diarrhoea, yielding a 16.8 percent production figure.

July sales records show Plymouth County livestock growers consigned 261 struckloads to the Producers Commission Association of Sioux City, placing the county first in the Sioux City territory. This marks a gain of 66 loads from July 1928. The report includes township consignments for July 1929 and a comparison to July 1928.
