Visiting dignitary brings Sudan Morning News to Sentinel
Bob Collins of Gas Peck Manufacturing Co. visited the Daily Sentinel office with copies of the Morning News from the Republic of Sudan. He recently returned from a five week world tour, delivering well digging rigs and training operators, with stops in Australia, Singapore, Bangkok, Laotian border, Lebanon, Sudan, Africa, the Middle and Far East, and Rome. He left Oct. 19 and noted four or five rigs sold, possibly two in Sudan.

Hinton man helps rescue Viet family
A former Hinton resident, S/Sgt. William R. Thompson, of the Fifth Infantry division, aided by S/Sgt. Marion L. Cunningham and S/Sgt. Ernest Hathaway, rescued a Vietnamese mother and her six children amid floodwaters during tropical storm Bess near Quang Tri. The mother had just given birth. the father was not found. The rescue occurred as MPs formed a human chain to move the family to safety. Also reported: missing calculator and skil-saw at Dewey Kent’s Remsen hog buying station.

New license plates go on sale Monday at court house
County treasurer Fred Riter today announced 1969 license plates to on sale Monday, Dec. 2, at the court house. He reminded that plates and registration for all vehicles to be stored for 1969 must be surrendered to the county treasurer's office by Jan. 31, 1969. License purchasers must bring the 1968 registration with them when they buy their new licenses, as this facilitates faster service. Mail orders must include 25 cents for postage to cover mailing.

Pilot Maj John Tolsma Killed In Kingsley Field Crash
Maj John Tolsma 37 native of Le Mars died in a plane crash on takeoff at Kingsley Field near Klamath Falls Oregon Tuesday afternoon. Capt Richard L Morgan the pilot also died. Tolsma, stationed at Ent AFB Colorado Springs, had served 15 years and previously in Vietnam. Surviving relatives include wife Marilyn two daughters two sisters and a brother. Services planned in Le Mars with Mauer’s funeral home handling arrangements.

School attendance at Le Mars elementary grades ran just about average with some illness reported. One grade school noted a small rise in absences two days last week, but attendance returned to normal before Thanksgiving. Junior high and high schools reported normal absence levels.

Dr Floyd Christiansen Dies in Sioux City Remsen Physician
Dr Floyd Christiansen aged 45 of Sioux City formerly practiced in Remsen from 1949 to 1966. He died at 11 30 p m Tuesday at his home 3635 Court Street Sioux City after moving there two years ago to be near a dialysis machine. Funeral services are pending at Moeller funeral home Remsen. Survivors include his wife Jean his mother two daughters two sisters and a brother.

Santa Claus Arrives by Fire Truck in Le Mars
