The Koenig agency reports 1951 traffic fatalities and injuries soar over 1940, with 9.4 million total losses. About 90 percent of crashes stem from human error and excessive speed as a major factor in motor vehicle accidents.

In Union Park Des Moines a 100 foot display marks the Easter Seal campaign with tulips chosen as the Iowa Society for Crippled Children flower. The campaign coincides with tulip bloom and honors the charity with living symbol. Patrolman Robert Janett aided a lost army pilot Charles Hartnett by guiding him to a Clermont landing strip using a red car blinker.
