Charles H. Boyles performs as Chauncey Depot in The Star Boarder, a clever farce comedy billed for Thursday November 27. The show has drawn crowded houses this theater year, and Boyle wrote the farce under its above clever title.

A herd of about forty cattle belonging to Rank Ieese of Merrill wandered onto the Hiineis Central railroad at Merrill Sunday night. A passenger train struck most of them, killing 37 head. The engine and cars were damaged with blood and cattle matter on the front, and the train was halted for about 90 minutes. The railroad buried the carcasses Monday, and a replacement engine arrived later.

Remsen saloon keeper r Burdell, under a permanent injunction issued by Judge Fr Ro Gay to stop violations of the mulci law, was arrested for selling liquor to minors. He was taken to Sioux City for a Friday hearing before Judge Wakefield, with part of the evidence submitted and the case postponed to November 22 for further testimony. Sullivan and Griffith represent the state. D I Kass represents Burdell.
A local man, Boland, sustained a serious injury after slipping on an icy sidewalk on Sunday morning. He suffered two broken ribs and a bruised side, treated by Dr. RTE Foster. He remained at home briefly then returned downtown.
Western Union College faced a 4 to 3 defeat by the high school girls in a basketball clash at Athletic Park. In football, Morningside College overwhelmed Western Union 22 to 0, with Morningside dominating both line and end plays despite occasional rougher play.
A large armour plant burned, causing extensive damage estimated near a million dollars. Firefighters fought the blaze through the night as crews secured the scene and assessed the financial impact on the facility and workers.
Sioux City reports a devastating blaze at Armour & Co. packing plant, four acres, valued $900,000, starting in the fertilizer building. Ammonia drums exploded and a large stock of meat and hogs burned. Fire crews failed to control the inferno. six hundred workers lose jobs. The company plans immediate rebuilding and continued market activity in nearby cities.
Monday evening two assailants confronted Kryn Verheul at the Omaha stock yards demanding money. Verheul resisted with a hammer, knocking one robber down and driving the other away. Police later detained two men who showed no injuries and released them. Verheul and Marshal Gannon reported the incident and warned future would be attackers.
Thursday neighbors gathered for a duplicate whist party to celebrate G W Bolser’s birthday. Seven players joined the host at his home, enjoyed a supper with chrysanthemums and cigars, and revealed Mrs Bolser’s secret attendance as the guests extended the celebration. The eight regular players listed were G W Bolser V P Theilman M Martin H Thomarson J J McDuffie G Smaltz Ed Bedell F M Roseberry.
The Professional Teachers Association of Plymouth County held a large Saturday meeting with strong attendance. Officers elected for the year include UW Nienhuis LeMars president W W Jeffers Seney treasurer and Miss Ethel Burns GeMars secretary. A county teachers meeting will be held at Akron next Saturday.
A. Van Dyke died at his home on Etubbard Street Tuesday at eleven o'clock after weeks of illness. He was 62. The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 PM at M. EB. church, with Rev. W. J. McDonald officiating.
A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Cline ton Aber in Akron on Thursday evening November 6. A son arrived for Mr and Mrs G A Stol in Akron on Thursday November 18. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Al Chambers in Akron on Sunday November.
