The Daily Sentinel unveiled a new fourth Goss offset press unit boosting capacity by 33 percent and enabling 16 page runs. Publisher Carter Pitts notes space was planned for it since the plant moved in and the unit allows 2 to 16 page configurations and color photos, with installation led by Charles Ski Kwiatkowski.

Iowa crew foreman collapses during house wiring work
Francis McCarthy 46, a new Iowa Public Service foreman, collapsed on a Frank Scholer residence roof while electricians repositioned service lines. Rescue efforts failed after 10:30 a.m. as he was rushed to Floyd Valley Hospital and pronounced dead. Survivors include his wife Joan and several children. The accident occurred amid a project to relocate wires on Central Avenue.

The 1968 Central Telephone Co. directories for Le Mars Brunsville and Struble customers were mailed yesterday and should arrive in two days. Some numbers changed so users should verify dialed numbers. District manager K L Rasmus urges destroying old directories after receiving the new. The volume features a photo fabric cover long distance dialing and Le Mars civic information.

Supreme Court Rules Ads Tax constitutional Iowa
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled the 3 percent sales tax on services including advertising is constitutional, reversing a Scott County ruling. The tax began Oct 1, 1967, with collection on five services restrained since January by an injunction. Revenue Director Forst said the decision could add up to 10 million dollars to the current fiscal year, alleviating strain on the general fund, which stood at 112.9 million on July 1, 1967. Governor-elect Ray called the decision a windfall for a strained state budget. Page 5.

Gehlen schools exceed basic standards with diverse offerings
Gehlen high school provides over 40 course credits while the grade school runs a full program plus religion. The district holds North Central Accrediting Assn. and Iowa Department of Public Instruction approval, meeting state standards for teacher certification and course options. Gehlen offers five science, seven social science including religion, five and a half English and speech, five mathematics, five foreign languages, and 11 practical arts courses. Graduation requires 16 credits, though last year students earned about 20 to 22.
