A series of Sunday visits root across Elkhorn and surrounding towns. Emery Kurtz family and Francis Hendrix with relatives traveled to Albert Kurtz home in Elkhorn while Ernest Page and Keith Atkinson families visited Fred Bowers home in Whiting. Others attended reunions in Sioux City and Moville with multiple local households hosting dinners and gatherings. A farm neighbor group aided Elsworth Parry after a fall, and Melvin Makken left for Worthington Minnesota to manage a creamery. The Y M C A gathering was hosted by Paul Kasten with devotionals and a social luncheon.
Stanton Rev Basil Grimes and Albert Fischer attended a ministerial conference at Dysart on Saturday and Sunday. In the absence of Rev Grimes, Wesley Hauk had a leading role during the event.
In Westfield area, Gene Mahlan Dwaine Dewey and Leonard Buryanek dug out six cub coyotes and wounded the mother as she disappeared into the hills. The cubs were taken to LeMars for bounty. Also notes include community events from June 2 onward such as free movies and school art contests, plus upcoming visits and social gatherings in nearby towns.

A May 3 birth to Richard Tague is noted, along with high school students still hospital bound after a car crash. Mrs. Dorthea Miller and Chris of Marcus plus other kin helped Doris Miller celebrate her birthday Sunday evening. Albert Lundgren Allen dined with Arnold Patterson in Le Mars. N. F. Petersen Evelyn Lou Larson and Herbert Larson aided Henry Larson birthday party Wednesday. Ray Boyd Herman Miller and Hans Miller visited William Miller at Cleghorn Sunday. Axel Petersen Blanche attended the St Pauls Lutheran church Baccalaureate.
Perry Center notes include graduates Harald Vondrak Norman Weber and Herbert Angore from Great Lakes naval training Illinois May 1. Harold and Norman stationed in Philadelphia serve as mess cooks while Herbert trains for coast guard duty in Chicago. Community visits, births, funerals, and social gatherings are listed, with families such as Crouch, Vondrak, Ward, Binford, and Trometer featured among the weekend and weekday events.
Water runs in Apple Creek for first time in years as creeks in the Craig vicinity regain flow. Farmers report reappearing water tables, while WWI veterans Semil, August Pieper and Emil, Ervin, William Pieper are noted as overseas in the current conflict. Free summer movie nights start May 15 in Craig, with local residents attending.
Community figures gathered for a Ladwig family reunion at the Bilert Ladwig home honoring Frank Ludwig of Richmond Ind visiting for Mother's Day with Mrs Johanna Ladwig. Attendees included Shoemaker and Eggebrecht families, Huttons, Beech, Schulz, and Ludwig relatives. Plans cover a county blacksmith shop renovation and Ireton high school graduation events with a large student dinner and prom program at the gym.
Reports from Hawarden and nearby towns list multiple medical updates. Mrs Henry Benit of Ireton remains seriously ill at Hawarden hospital. Mrs Henry Vogelaar of Maurice underwent above the knee leg amputation at DeBey hospital Orange City. Several hospitalizations and recoveries noted, plus new births: Erma Jean to Mr and Mrs Herb Reinkin Hawarden on May 13.
