A letter from Rev. Little asks a brother to accompany him on a planned summer tour and fill the vacancy left by Herman. The inquiry ends with a friendly reply, Hi, Louie.
Division No 2 of the W S C S will hold a food sale Saturday May 11 in Jones Grocery with chicken and noodles fresh bread rolls coffee cakes and pies. Seniors of Merrill High School and Supt J Kissinger enjoyed Skip Day May 7 touring Sioux City and Journal offices. Mrs Anna Brunstedt confined to Methodist Hospital Sioux City for knee treatments. Circle No 1 met May 8 at the home of Mrs Albert Lang with several guests. A town baby born May 6 at Lutheran Hospital Sioux City. Merrill Women’s Study Club hosted a May breakfast May 4 at the High School. Maypole themed tables with lilacs tulips lilies and candy favors. Recapped convention at LeMars and new president Mrs Edna Kehrberg. Mrs W C Bell of Newell a house guest. W S C S division meets May 15 at the Wilson and Fry homes with a miscellaneous sale. Local visitors and sick lists noted, including Theora Schimberg and Maxine French. Dr H Wolfson travels to Chicago to visit his ill mother.
A large Plymouth gathering met at the Irwin Brandstetter home for a mission and meeting. Numerous locals visited relatives and attended events, including Lt. Roger Brandstetter and Miss Marjorie Jane of Chicago, with guests listed across many households in Plymouth and nearby towns.
Mrs. Quinn and Mrs. Kehrberg are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Hopkens of Freeport, Dl, visited Clifford Kress on Saturday while en route from Worthing, S. D. Clifford marked his birthday with Paul Kasten as supper guests Sunday. Ray Berner and Donna joined the Kress household as did Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward and son Eldon of Centerville, S. D., for a Sunday call at the George Kehrberg home.
The Junior Senior banquet will be at First Reformed church basement Thursday evening with mothers of the juniors serving. Robert Kuecker, son of Mr and Mrs Freeman Kuecker, arrived home from army service in Siberia and discharged after travel by plane then train. Plans are under way for a Mother Daughter banquet at the First Reformed church next week. Mrs James Hotalen visited her parents after illness in Cherokee. A German measles case recovered in the C J DeJong home. Olga Wilson and Viola MacDonald of Tacoma, Wash visited the Emil Engelbrecht home. George Van Roe kel and family visited the Vernon DeKock home. Mrs John Roggen spoke at the Mother Daughter banquet in Alton. Shirley Vander Hamm gave a music recital at Sherman No 7 schoolhouse. social time and coffee followed. Selma Siege attended a Mother Daughter banquet at Grace Lutheran in LeMars. John Smits and daughter Hather and William Smits with children spent Sunday in Marvin Smits’ home in Winside Neb. Leo Hollinger and wife Erma Vore, now in Sioux City after army discharge. The Siege, Siegel and Chapman families joined Andrew Oaken for Sunday dinner near Ireton. Mrs J R Boyd and Mrs Ros Boe Vere visited Sioux City Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Martin Jenning and son Parke attended a wedding in Sioux City Sunday. Mrs Frank Ruhland and Mrs William Buckley hosted the St Joseph Altar society at the rectory Thursday afternoon with presiding Hilda Schlesser. A study hour followed informal time and lunch. Carl Duerr, back from overseas duty, visited his sister’s home in LeMars then returned west. School board elected Helen Kallsen to teach upper grades and Jeanette Gysbertsen to lower grades. Frances Lewis, Brookings College student, visited home and Don Kerr of LeMars, a classmate, was home. On Monday Mrs Kerr, with Mrs Neil Shive and Bobbie, took the boys to Brookings.
