Young man Shumate committed to Cherokee asylum
Urence I Shumate a 7 year old, described as a hardworking farm hand, was arrested by Sheriff Herron after a family petition alleging insanity. Examined by commissioners at LeMara and ordered committed to the Cherokee asylum. He was in custody Wednesday and remained tractable during transport and detainment. Neighbors and family note his industrious life and popular standing in the county.

Death of James Thindall at Adaville
James Thindall of Adaville died Thursday afternoon at his home from tuberculosis of the bowels. He had been ill since January 1 and endured three or four operations for temporary relief. The funeral will be held in Adaville on Monday with interment there.

The Lehigh Valley Argus reports the marriage of Miss Jean Elsberry oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W S Elsberry to Dr Charles D Ray of LeMars Iowa on Thursday evening April 30 1903 at 8 oclock at the couple’s home in Lehigh. Rev Eli G Price officiated before about twenty five relatives and friends. The bride wore white organdie with lace and carried a rose bouquet. Grace Spangler sang O leave me not dear heart. After a reception the couple left by midnight train for LeMars to reside. home to friends after May 20. The Argus offers congratulations and best wishes.

Lost bulldog returns after townwide search
H H Freeman advertised to recover a bulldog that jumped from baggage cars. Marshal Gannon tracked the dog with help from the town as residents and merchants joined in the chase. The dog evaded capture repeatedly until a man finally spotted it and brought it back, the man receiving a minor bite in the effort.

Death of Fred K. Miller in LeMars
Fred K. Miller died at his Cedar street home in LeMars Tuesday morning after a long illness from tuberculosis of the throat. Born August 21, 1859 in Bridgeport Canada, he moved to LeMars in 1883 and was part of Miller Bros. He served two terms as alderman, was married to Kaye Barber in 1886, and left five children, one deceased. Funeral held at St. Joseph's Church with Bankers Union involvement. friends and relatives noted his devout character and civic service.

St Josephs Remsen Insurance Branch Holds Annual Meeting
The St Josephs branch of the Remsen German Roman Catholic Mutual Insurance Association met in Washington hall on May 7. I W Mels called the meeting to order with Theodore Lanple as secretary. The group lists branches in Alton LeMars Hospers and Granville with Remsen as parent and about 630 members and 1 800 000 in force. Delegates Martin Koopman John Roering Anton Mels Nic Kellen and Mat Kump were named to attend the Remsen convention May 27 and Henry Ahlers was chosen collector. The branch management committee comprises I W Mels Math Kamp and Henry Ahlers.

Jury verdict guilty after Friday. sentence scheduled for Monday.
