Changes Dairy Cows Feed Improves Butterfat Output

Henry Bowers of southern Hardin county saw dairy gains after adopting a balanced ration recommended by John P. Jones. Over a year, cows previously in run-down condition increased production from 23.7 to 33 pounds of butterfat per cow in March, with no extra cost.

Vaccination of Young Pigs Shows Promise in Trials

Dr Charles Murray of Iowa State College reports that pigs vaccinated with serum and virus at a young age endure less risk from hog cholera than those vaccinated after weaning. Over seven years about 3971 pigs aged 24 hours to 7 8 weeks were treated. 130 were later tested for immunity, with total deaths only 23, 21 in 1926 possibly due to potent virus issues. The study suggests young pig vaccination is safe and may aid pig owners, though not yet recommended as general practice.

Mrs Ben Rhiner of Sheldon visited at the Ben Knapp home while Fred Kling, employed in Sioux City, spent several days with his parents Mr and Mrs Henry Kling. Mrs Nick Singer underwent surgery at LeMars hospital and is improving. Mrs John Lemke continues treatments at Sioux City Methodist hospital and hopes to return home late this week. Mr and Mrs John Wrpelding and Mrs Mary Simpson were Le Mars business callers. Clifford Deitz and Hans Simeonson hosted visitors from LeMars and Des Moines respectively. Harold LeRoy infant son of Mr and Mrs Bernard Stinton was seriously ill at Methodist hospital in Sioux City. Mrs C C Hauff and son Warren and Helen Huff transacted business in LeMars. The second division of the Ladies Aid sponsored a Heart Sister luncheon at the M E church.

Woman Injured After Tire Blowout And Crash

A woman and her husband were riding when a tire blew out, overturning the car. She sustained bruises but attended school duties. Lawrence Jessen reported misfortune Saturday night as several sheep were killed by stray dogs. one dog was shot. County officials notified.
