Mayor Eugene Scholer issues a city wide Easter Seal Drive proclamation during a Saturday service at Crippled Children’s Hospital in LeMars Iowa. The document urges citizens to support Easter Seal Societies to aid crippled children and handicapped adults toward fuller lives through services, research, camps, education and care.
A noted cooking school in LeMars faces a scheduling conflict with King School and a potential date shift to April 22. About eleven thousand persons attended the NFO sausage feed at Mapleton high school auditorium. Governor Harold Hughes and NFO director John Engels spoke. Several LeMars families brought children to meet the governor and receive autographs.
Executors report thieves broke into the farm house east and north of Le Mars Saturday night and took a roll top desk chair and a dresser from Vernon Elliott who is a patient at the county home. Leads on the theft are being followed today. Also noted is a Northwest Iowa rodeo and junior high instrumental contest at Westmar on March 14 with about 1,100 solo contestants and 2 ensemble groups from 39 area schools, in cooperation with the Northwest Iowa Bandmasters Association.
Mrs. Ben Held of Hinton is selected as Mother of the Year candidate by Plymouth County Farm Bureau women. The Held family runs 540 acres with Howard and Chester White pigs. Their 31 children, all graduates of Morningside College, include teachers. Mrs. Held is active in WSCS PTA 4-H church and civic affairs and Farm Bureau since 1928.
A C Luther told Sheriff Frank Scholer that 21 hogs are missing from a farm in western Plymouth county. Some farms lack tenants and hogs are pastured and housed there. The report lists 21 hogs, two sons and 19 butchers as linked to the loss.
In Pierson, Iowa, the Farmer's Co op seeks 2792.63 for goods delivered and requests a writ of attachment on all machinery with Oltmann & Phelps Bank as garnishee. Two jury trials scheduled this term were settled before today. Cases Vance v Plueger and Buhman v Plueger arose from accidents.

Darvin J Hartman transfers land interests in districts NEY NWI and other sections totaling 325000.00 in 1964 Iowa Easter Seal efforts. Nancy Rowell and State buster Seal Chairman presented Governor Harold Hughes with the first of over 3,000,000 Luster Seals mailed in Iowa. Hughes proclaims March 1 to 3 as Easter real Munih and March 21 as Crippled Children's Day with handicapped paper lilies sold statewide.
The Kernel Kaperes will appear at the high school auditorium this weekend Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. The performance promises a staged event likely drawing students and community members to enjoy the program.
Aerie 1381 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Le Mars, says Policemen of Iowa support building a nonsectarian chapel and gym at the Jerry Rabiner Memorial Boys Ranch near Fort Dodge. Dividends to policyholders totaled 7.09 million. policyholders’ surplus reached 280.4 million. State Farm’s auto insurer status and rate increases outlined, with expansion in policies and assets across operations.
In district court two lawsuits seek large damages. Harry L. Jackson, driver of an H and H gas transport, alleges a collision on August 27, 1963 near Seney with Lyte L. Simpson driving east on highway 33. He seeks 75000 for injuries and future medical costs. Leonard A. Brooks seeks 67687.07 from Fred E. Lucken for a May 23, 1962 accident seven miles east of Akron, alleging negligence.
Thursday at 3 p.m. Gerda Wessle Heeren’s 1964 Ford lost control and struck the First National Bank Building, causing about $100 damage to the right fender grill and bumper. Le Mars police investigated. March 6 at 4:15 p.m. a head‑on collision on Highway 33 near Seney involved a 1955 Bord owned by Otto Van Roeckel and a 1962 Studebaker driven by G Gordon Alexander of Sauk Rapids Minnesota. Alexander was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
