Born in Germany 95 years ago, he is survived by five children including son Irving of Portland Oregon and two daughters in the county with another in Woodbury. He was deeply loved for his kindly disposition.
The parish of St Marys Catholic church at Alton voted 84 percent to erect a large church this year. Forty eight members favored deferral, 44 urged immediate work. The brick structure will cost 50000 dollars, modern in design, with foundation to begin soon.

The Decameronian and Excelator literary societies clashed in a March 1 debate held in the college chapel before a crowded audience. The Decameronian team KF Black, Fred Mueller and R Blakely argued for ownership and operation of railroads, winning a close, well-researched contest judged by I S Struble, Zink, Rev Moore, and Holelatein. The funeral for John Thaden, who died Friday at his Eagle street home of Brights disease, drew many. Rev H Dommann of St John’s presided, praising his upright character and devotion to family. Thaden, born September 18 1856 in Germany, married Katharine Molimann in 1879 and had four children George Geraldine Amanda two living with their mother. The family settled in LeMars in 1890 where he ran a merchant tailor business. Attendees included J Mohmann and family C Swieshaw Akron Wm Frost Merrill and Mrs A L Harding Sioux City. He leaves a sister Mrs Paul Moening in Milwaukee and siblings in Germany.
