Lutherans contributed 56,308,838 in 1949 for church work worldwide, averaging 49.57 per communicant member. The Missouri Synod led growth with 69,000 new members in 1949, including 40,000 adults and 29,000 confirmation-age children, while over 64,000 children were baptized in the period.
The Marion Town ship Farm Bureau met on June 15 at the union church with eleven ladies present. Mrs. Louis Hager presided, minutes approved, and a July 20 picnic date set. Members will bring covered dishes, own dishes and silver. A book review of Because of the Lockwoods by Dorothy Whipple was given along with a humorous reading, music, a piano solo, and a quiz. Lunch was provided by hostesses Mrs. Hager and Mrs. Anderson. Commuter traffic info notes that it accounts for 43 percent of passengers, 9.1 percent of passenger miles, and 5 percent of revenues for class 1 railroads.
Myron Borchers of Treton Iowa a vocational agriculture student in Le Mars public schools won a nationwide essay contest on Soil Fertility and the Nation's Future. The award includes a certificate and embossed pin and was presented with praise from instructor Wm M Wichelmann.
