The community in Maurice and nearby towns reports a weekend of visits and gatherings. Families travel to Sioux City, Sheldon, and Rock Valley for funerals, alumni events, church picnics, and hospital care while local youth prepare for summer activities and a high school band begins park concerts.
Mr and Mrs Henry Maassen of Sheldon visited in John Maassen s home Tuesday. The Willing Workers met Monday evening with the Brinks as hostesses. Mr and Mrs Emil Englebrecht spent Saturday with relatives at Beresford. D Maurice lost to Hawarden 7 to 5 in a Friday diamondball game. Families from Paullina Rapid City and Flandreau held a reunion at Ben Heusinkveld s Sioux City home Sunday. Mrs Richard attended the ladies aid at Mrs John Hoeksma s Thursday. Mr and Mrs Larsen visited Nebraska over the weekend. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Arthur Baker married in Chicago on June 1. Mrs Baker is Florence Hoekstra, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Hoekstra of this city. Mr and Mrs Sam Wynna and children of Hadley visited Henry Wieger over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Wallace Verburg left Friday for Iowa City for summer school at Iowa University. Mr and Mrs Will Korver and son of Orange City were Sunday upper guests in Henry Vlieger s home.
Struble and Lloyd Sheeler families plus sons visited Sioux City on Monday. Vander Scoop couple from LeMars stopped by Don Nicholson’s home Sunday afternoon. Lynn Schwier spends week with iid Petersons in Sioux City. Roy Edwards of Sioux City visited John McDougall Wednesday. McDougall family and Mrs. Orpha Noble attended Presbyterian Sunday school picnic at Riversioux Thursday. Mrs. Roy Deegan attended alumni banquet at St Mary’s Alton Sunday night. Carl Albers' birthday celebration drew many friends and family Thursday for his mother Mrs T M Albers’ 98th birthday. Albers remains active and wished many more birthdays. John Mieras family went to Storm Lake Saturday for Standard Oil picnic. Alfred Albers received word Saturday her brother Wilbert Trafton was operated on for ulcers in a Klamath Falls hospital, in critical condition.
Fredonia residents including Mr and Mrs J A Kloster and family of Ovens visited at the Toval Kloster home Thursday evening. Herman Miller and Hans Miller households hosted visits Thursday. Larson brothers and Andrew Suht shelled corn Thursday. Ed Koldenhoven and Henry Bos Jr hosted Sunday evening visits. Ovens Co op elevator board met Friday to consider coal sheds. Locals joined J A Kloster for Mrs Kloster’s birthday Friday night. Axel Petersen family visited LeMars Friday. Rev Alvin Peterson and wife from Marcus dined with Nis Mortensen Sunday. Jake Foreman and Betty Jean Van Pelt of Alton visited Bert Nielsen Tuesday evening. The daily vacation bible school.
Sunday afternoon program at the center school house drew a good attendance. Visitors included Mr and Mrs Kilzer of Homer Neb and Mr and Mrs Ralph Kilger with daughter Jacquelin of South Sioux City Neb. Also visiting were Matthias Lund of Omaha and Sam Lund’s family in town, while Edw Van Gorp and family joined a Sunday school picnic at Orange City.

A notice to Plymouth County residents announces a petition filed with the Iowa State Commerce Commission by Plymouth Electric Cooperative Association LeMars Iowa seeking a franchise to erect and maintain electric transmission lines across specified public and private lands. The description covers routes in sections 16 25 36 and 21 township 91 north range 46 47 with 7200 volt single phase lines and multiple grounded neutrals.
