Rain benefits grain and corn in Grant township

A special correspondent notes rain fell in Grant township on Monday morning benefiting grain and corn. Many have already been cutting and are cultivating for a second time, with prospects for a bumper crop this year. Mrs. Jack Powers of Denver, Colorado, visits Harm home. she is sister of Mrs. Heeren. Next, Mr. and Mrs. Gerd von Hagel were visitors in the John Ludwigs home. Several Grant residents attended Brunsville carnival with a parade and a double header. Brunsville beat Craig. Grant beat Brunsville in the second game. Dick Frerichs returned from Rochester, Minnesota. his mother, who had a serious operation, is improving. Eighth grade graduates of Grant township listed: Elmer Asseln, Mildren Brabander, Elvera Garrels, Edwin Hanstein, Erwin Harms, Arlene Hauschild, Royal Hawkins, Lucille Heeren, Lillian Kleihauer, Alvin Ludwigs, Gerd Ludwigs, Catherine Nolan, Walter Renken. Local Farm Fire Destroys Lauschadt Property

Reports show Mrs. Lauschadt’s farm destroyed by fire last winter. Throughout the area, residents including the Reynolds, Klemme, Borchers, Heeren, and Kallsen families visited, hosted, or traveled for social and family duties with church and community events noted. Several LeMars and Hawarden connections appear, along with a Brunsville carnival and a Sacred Heart hospital operation.

Obituary for Tim Oordt and relatives in Orange City

Tim Oordt of Bellflower California and Mrs Andrew Hop of Maurice left twenty six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers Evert and Jake Riepma. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Protestant Reformed church with Rev Gritte and Rev Ver Meer officiating. Burial followed in Orange City cemetery. Out of town relatives included Mrs Martha Swartz of Princeburg Minnesota and Riveret Riepma and family of Hawarden.
