Wasmer Post to elect officers at June meeting

Wasmer Post No. 241 will elect officers at the June meeting Wednesday night. Nominations were set at the May meeting for Commander J. Michael Dull first vice Leonard Schleis second vice Ed Litzmann Jr Trustee Arnold Robinette Art Kellen Chaplain Roman Langer Historian Harvey Kluckhohn Sgt at Arms Byron Jeys Finance Norris Hawkins Executive Committee Warren Betts Albert Thorpe Fred Haring Jr Nominations from the floor before voting. A report from delegates to American Legion boys state will be read by Tom Ryan David Brangwin Gary Smith Ray Ortmann and Dennis Easton. Eighth grade citizenship winners were Rita Baldwin Bruce Pierson Central Edward Woll Sandra Sauer Gehlen. Walmer Post thanks all involved in Memorial day activities.

Organizations can still sell food during centennial

Organizations may sponsor a food stand at the centennial celebration by contacting Don Paulin this week. Food permits cost 10 dollars for one day or 25 dollars for three days, obtainable from Mr Paulin or the Centennial Headquarters.

Gas rate cuts expected after FPC order change

The FPC reduced wholesale gas prices and IPS plans to cut customer rates once its copy of the new schedule is received. Northern Natural Gas Co had raised rates last February with an adjustment in March. IPS will issue refunds for gas used since March 11 and adjust its own rates accordingly.

Born at Floyd Valley hospital to Mr and Mrs Darrell Hartman, a son named Maurice arrived June 8 confirming a new arrival in the family and adding joy to the household.

Le Mars Centenary to Welcome Global Dignitaries

Dignitaries from Ireland Luxembourg and multiple U.S. officials will join Le Mars for the July 3 4 5 centennial celebration. Consul Generals Brian O’Ceallaigh and Nicholas Colling will attend with Steven Heinz head of the National Luxembourg Brotherhood. Gov. Robert D. Ray Lt Gov Jepsen and others are confirmed. Sen Hughes declined. Founders Day luncheon July 3 features Master of Ceremonies James P. Kelley with Gov. Ray delivering the principal address. Tickets on sale for $ per person at the Center Headquarters and centennial booth. first come first served.

Paving hearing set for Thursday night

The city council will hold a public hearing on the 1969 street improvement project Thursday at 7 30 p m in the council chambers. Property owners along the streets will have the opportunity to express their opinions on the paving improvements. Total cost of the paying improvements is estimated to be $328 084 20.

Twilight herbicide plot tour near LeMars Tuesday evening

A herbicide plot tour will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. two miles west of LeMars on highway 3. Attendees will view three pre plant, eight pre-emergence, one post-emergence herbicide plots and a check. Plots were planted May 6 with four row broadcasts. the post-emergence was applied May 31. Sponsors include Northwest Iowa Farm Bureau Service Co, Geigy, Monsanto, Stoffer, and DuPont, with extension service supervision.

Supersweet names Koenecke area sales manager at Le Mars

Supersweet has named W. Koenecke as area sales manager for Le Mars replacing resigning William A. Ad. A Dunnell Minnesota native, Koenecke joined Supersweet in Estherville as territory manager in 19 and moved to Hampton, later becoming area sales manager for S Kan in 1964. He is a Gustavus Adolphus College graduate and works under Raymond H. general sales manager.

Westmar students to tour Europe a 69 day program

Twenty five students from Westmar college and partner institutions will tour Europe for 69 days starting June 12. Led by Ted R. Jamison the trip offers six hours of European history credit with visits across Scotland England the Loire Valley Germany Italy Austria Denmark Norway and more. The itinerary includes world war sites a Rhine river cruise and audiences with Pope Paul VI.
