Ridiculous school reorganization proposal sparks critique
The Great Plains plan to require districts of 3,500 pupils and centers in towns over 5,000 faces strong opposition in Sibley. It would leave northwestern Iowa towns like Spencer and Estherville with undersized schools. Educators proposed the idea, but critics say it needs tailoring to the region and state, favoring smaller reorganization and existing area programs such as Northwest Iowa Vocational School at Sheldon and four-county special education efforts.
