Flags Remember Servicemen At Le Mars Avenue Of Flags
New flags were dedicated for the second year in a row in Le Mars with burial flags for Lt. Corbin Tindall and D. C. Lenihan. A 10:30 a.m. ceremony included Rev. James Ransom, wreaths, taps, and a firing squad. Boy and girl scouts helped roll flags as the crowd packed the courthouse lawn. The event kicked off Le Mars centennial plans with an afternoon parade and a 6:30 band concert amid cool, windy Memorial Day conditions.

Chamber float joins Cherokee parade in centennial rodeo build up
The Chamber of Commerce float appeared Saturday May 31 in Cherokee parade held before the RCA rodeo. The same rodeo will be in Le Mars for the centennial. Riding the float were Mrs. Donna Utesch and Mrs. Doris Beitelspacher, with Don Rozeboom pulling it.

Molten’s shop destroyed in Le Mars fuelled fire blaze
A Saturday afternoon fire leveled Larry and Sherri Molten’s repair shop at 322 First St. NE Le Mars destroying contents including a drag racing car on Fiat body, 11 motorcycles, tools, records and inventory. No injuries reported. two pumpers and a rescue unit fought the blaze. Insurance crews and owner remarks followed as damages were estimated in the thousands.

Two cars collide on Central Ave near First St
Doris Ann Kellen, 37, backing from the curb on the west side, struck the right front of Peter Francis Thoma, 79, of 101 Fifth Ave NE, as both cars traveled Central Ave at First St north. The 5:37 p.m. May 28 crash caused left rear damage to Kellen’s 1968 Chevrolet and minor damage to Thoma’s vehicle.

IPS to Invest 45000 in Le Mars Water System Expansion
IPS will spend 45000 this summer to add a 350 foot well with 1000 gpm capacity at the south pumping station near Blue Ribbon Reef in Le Mars. The upgrade raises system capacity to 3500 gpm and over 5 million gallons daily, improving fire reliability and pressure. Contract awarded to Layne-Western of Omaha.
