Union WCTU Meeting Notes and Upcoming Iowa Events

Union Township WCTU met in the Presbyterian church parlors July 22 with Mrs. W. G. Anderson as hostess. The group opened with a hymn and prayer, studied Christ Our Saviour, reviewed parliamentary questions, and conducted an officer election for next year. The county convention is set for August 26 at First Presbyterian in Le Mars, and nesting occurs August 29 at Mrs. Earl Morton’s home. The union subscribes again to Union Signal and Young Crusader for the coming school year, supports missionary work in Greenville Mission Station, and will mail the Union Signal to the Rice couple in Africa. The host provided lunch. A Wisconsin professor is quoted on alcoholism as a major public health issue.

The Grant Clover Clovers 4-H club met at Shirley Ahrendt’s home on July 13 1954 with 14 members and 1 visitor. They planned an August picnic and kept the music hooks with their leader. Members presented demonstrations on dusting units end tables and talks on colors manners social courtesies feet care and how the well dressed bed wears. Jannyce Bietelspach gave a chalk on color and the group sang from new music books before a lunch hosted by the hostess and her mother. Reporter JoAnn Janssen.

Lindliefs Visit From California for 90th Birthday

Perry Center shows Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Lindlief and daughters hosting Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lindlief of Pasadena to observe the 90th birthday of his mother in Storm Lake Iowa on August 17. Also noted are visits of Oliver Bowes in Gayville South Dakota John Korama entering the Metho Gist hospital in Sioux City and Wakefield Nebraska trips by the Swansons to see Felix Jelinek and Ed Beaulieu’s illness in Morningside.

Wasmer Unit Receives Meritorious Service Citation

The Wasmer Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary in Le Mars earned 150 credit-points and is rated a standard unit for 1953-1954. The citation, signed by Edith Young and Blanche G Allbee, notes special recognition for service in the department program and was mailed to qualifying units in Iowa before the department convention.

Miss Lenita Airisto to visit Le Mars six months

Local note reports Miss Lenita Airisto from Finland will stay in Le Mars for six months as a visitor guest of Ione under a visitor visa. Sioux City preliminaries winner Virgil T. Considine, a Plymouth county native, recalls his grandfathers moustache and frequent Le Mars visits.
