Special correspondent notes army worm arrival though not as dense as 1924. farmers deploy poisonous bait to protect corn and potato crops while potato bugs, once rare, increase. Also reports social visits, travel, and local postal office talk as residents share summer activities and possible post office move.
Special correspondent reports a weekend outing at Riverview park by Mr. and Mrs. Omer Ritchie and their son Darrell with Mrs. Clifford Bray. Wilson Geary had a tonsil and adenoid operation in Le Mars. Mrs. Miles Reints and Mrs. Matilda Berner and Vera visited Mrs. Walter Kehrberg. Frank Holzmann bought a new Chevrolet sedan. Mrs. John Grimjes and Mrs. Ray Berner hosted a gathering for Mrs. Clarence Knapp and Mrs. Evelyn Jones, with a two course luncheon. Earnest Hauswald and family visited at Nic Wilhelmi home. O W Weidauer had hogs at Sioux City market. Mrs. Alvin Flick of Chicago arrived to visit her Hoffmann relatives. A large family reunion and picnic were held at Ed Knapp home for Clarence Knapp and family of Anaheim California.
Union residents share many visits and gatherings from LeMars and nearby towns. Families like Laughlin Eyres Fred Featherston and Kemp are central, with picnics at Storm Lake and Riverview park, a July Fourth event, a kittenball effort, and church activities. Notable events include medical operations car thefts and a major local relocation of bank books.
Mr and Mrs Walter Druscher and family motor to Yankton to visit the Guerney feed and radio station. Mrs Reynold Jensen and baby and Arnold Jensen of Tyler Minnesota were Sunday guests at the D R Stewart home. This was the first opportunity to meet the Stewart's new great granddaughter. Victor Wheeler of South Dakota visited friends here early week. Mr and Mrs John Viotho Sr and son returned from Lincoln Nebraska after a few days. Mrs L L Smith and children from Gregory South Dakota stayed a week with relatives. Harry Johnson and children motored to Yankton for a visit at the Gurney seed station. Mr and Mrs Joe Jones and Mr and Mrs C C Wills and daughter Belinah left for Dallas South Dakota to visit relatives. Earnest Ganey returned from Marion South Dakota. Ganey is reported to be undergoing goiter treatment. Mr and Mrs Martin Cuperus motored to Hull Wednesday. Elmer Satterlee of Blue Earth Minnesota visited here.
Remsen residents undertook trips and gatherings including a Denver run by Mr and Mrs Henry Schorg and Mr and Mrs Eldon Riter. St Pauls Guild met south of Remsen while Jolly Circle members planned a Cherokee picnic. Mrs Cyril Kramer will house sit Kanawha for three weeks. Outings at Leach Lake and Sioux City visits noted. Sewage plant completion announced. Remsen ball team beat LeMars 13 to 9 in a local game. The Koob hardware store was burgled. Funeral for Emil Boehmke held at St Pauls Church. Rev Hy Reifschneider officiated. Rev Father Mattes left for Dedham May visit.
Mrs Leslie Bowen attended the Baptist Ladies Aid in Le Mars at her mother Mrs Ferguson's home. George Ehlers died suddenly of heart failure in Lag Beach California, a former local resident now on the coast. Mr and Mrs Art Cobbert, recently married, receive many congratulations. Ray Long underwent an appendicitis operation.
Residents and visitors share recent trips and hospital news. Mr and Mrs John Garding return from St Cloud Minnesota after a two week vacation. The Nee family, Rotary attendees, and various neighbors are noted for attendance at parties, dinners, and hospital stays. Aubrey Gengler remains under care after a mower accident. Mary Ries mourns Mrs Baack’s death. Frances Bortscheller undergoes appendicitis surgery. Activities include LeMars visits, Plymouth County Day at Riverview Park, and hospital updates on residents in the Yankton area.
Mrs Josephine Pullman of Chicago visits her brothers John and Frank Bortscheller. Mrs John Meis and Mrs Greg Meis stay with Dr P R Meis in LeMars while their son is born there.
Sunday picnic at Cleveland park in LeMars honors Mrs W A Meis and daughter Jean and son Billy of Chicago. Attendees include Dr and Mrs E W Meis and Audrey, Dr and Mrs Lee Meis and children, Dr and Mrs Ray Daling and children, and Mr and Mrs A W Meigs of Sioux City. Also present were Dr and Mrs P R Meis, Mr and Mrs A F Meig of LeMars, Mr and Mrs John Meis and daughters Mary and Martha, and Mr and Mrs Greg Meis.
