Preston Pearl 4 H met at Jeannie Plueger home on June 12 at 8 30 pm. Members discussed goals and demonstrations and planned a tour for July 7 at 8 30 am to Robert s Dairy Metz Baking Co Bishop Cafeteria and Andres Candies. Gowley Honored At Shenandoah Jaycees Banquet

Shenandoah reports Earle Crowley won outstanding young man of the year while Mr Murphy received honorary Jaycees membership. Clyde Maxwell was installed as president with Clyde Beavers and Paul Foster as officers. Special guests included Cal Pearson and Bill Owen. Robert Downing, former Le Mars chamber secretary, named Denver Retail Merchants Association executive director.

Le Mars Student Earns Straight A Average at State University

Jerry Blakely, son of Mr and Mrs Floyd T Blakely of Le Mars, is among 43 students at the State University of Iowa who earned straight A averages for the second semester of the 1960 61 school year. Dean Stuit called the achievement noteworthy for its future promise.

Breit defends Le Mars junior golf title with 107

Don Breit of Sioux Falls captured the Le Mars junior golf tournament title on the Country club course Friday finishing two over par 107. Berit led with rounds of 38 36 and 33 to beat Tom Dalton Cherokee and Mike Katres Sioux City who both shot 110 and dropped to second after a sudden death playoff. Marv Jacobsen Emmetsburg was medalist with 71 and Ron Anderson Sioux City was runner up with 73. John Dannenberg Storm Lake won longest drive at 312 yards as 144 golfers contested the two day event. LeMars Names New Secondary School Principal Stead

The LeMars Community Board of Education and Superintendent Archambault announce Vance Stead, 39, named to lead the secondary schools. Stead comes from Monticello with strong scholarship and leadership credentials and will begin around August 1. He has two years as a Monticello high school teacher and nine years as high school principal, plus prior teaching roles in Collins Farmersburg and Thornburg Town.

The district announced staffing changes for the next school year. Bill Hohenbauer fills the chemistry chair, Chuck Aknes becomes head basketball coach next season, and several teachers are hired for Le Mars Merrill and Seney schools. Eighty five relatives gathered for a Blackmore family picnic at New Deal Park in Le Mars on Sunday July 9 with attendees from Merrill Hinton Sioux City Seattle Maurice and Struble areas. The longest distance travelers were Lester Stephens and family from Seattle. The oldest attendee was Grandma Blackmore and the youngest Lori Kay Blackmore. The group plans a second Sunday gathering in July 1962 in Le Mars park.
