Mr and Mrs Elmet visited Monday in the home of Mr and Mrs Rohweller of Doon Indiana to spend time with friends and share greetings.
Mrs. William Brunskill returned from Minneapolis to visit relatives. Mrs. Lucy Volland and James Penrose from South Dakota visited at Mrs. W. W. Branch’s home and left Saturday. Ed Bush and son-in-law arrived with a tall corn story and photos of Pfister hybrid corn growing 3 miles east and 44 south of LeMars. Bush raises 200 acres this year. Vin cent Ryan and family visit from Fort Eustin, Virginia, where he is stationed. Florence Lynch, Mars national committeewoman, travels to Chicago for credentials sessions on delegate contests from Texas and Mississippi.
Christine L. Petersen and the O. W. McClaim family of Sioux Falls travel to Tyler Minnesota for the wedding of their cousin Norma Mickelsen to Wilfred Sanderson.
The Schilling family reunion was held at Edwin Detloff’s home on Sunday, July 20, honoring Mr. and Mrs. George Kohler and Diane of Temple City, California, who are visiting relatives in the area. Attendees from Craig, Sioux City, Cherokee and Le Mars joined for a picnic and social games in the afternoon.
Birth notices span July 1952 including a son to Mr and Mrs Lantee remnant south of Akron July 1 1952 and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Lawrence Cagnon south of Akron July 1 1952 plus other newborns in Akron Sioux City and Merrill Iowa. Grant Clever Clovers held a regular 4-H meeting at Mrs Kenneth Renken's home on July 8 with 14 members and 1 visitor. The group worked on record books and planned for the fair. After the meeting they prepared fruit salads for dessert and enjoyed a lunch. The next meeting is set for July 22 at Ruth Schuette's home.
Alfalfa seed prices drop with Premium ranger 66c lb and Cossack 65c. Grimm 49c with 10 percent Sweet Clover. Mills advertise grinding custom mixing and oat hulling. Pullet Builder sold as 10 lots at 99 dollars, Poultry Balancer at 110 dollars for ten lots, oyster shell and grit urged for pullets. Stonehill Creamery Condensed Butter Milk offered at 18.50 per large barrel, 17.50 at dock. A proverb on agreement concludes.
A number of Merrill area friends attended the funeral for Simon Grimies last Monday at Nelson-Berger chapel in Sioux City. Grimies farmed near Merrill for years before moving to Sioux City in 1939. He is survived by his widow Elsie a sister Mrs Chas Danne and a brother Henry Grimjes both of Te Mars.
Mrs. Fred Hammond attended a Saturday family reunion of the Wise family at Eagle Point Park in Dubuque Iowa with about seventy relatives present. Walter Grebner of Denver won the distance prize and Anna Kortemeyer of Independence the oldest attendee at 89. Mrs Hammond and her brother Walter Grebner and his wife visited relatives in Galena Scales Mound Schopsville and Elizabeth Illinois before returning home Tuesday.
The 8th annual World’s Championship Rodeo ran July 11 to 13 at the State Fair grounds in Huron. A big parade showcased floats from local businesses while top riders from the West South and Midwest competed for 5000 in prizes. Events included bulldogging calf roping wild horse racing bull riding bare back riding and saddle bronc. Cowboys and girls from multiple regions entertained as Wiley McCrary and Zeke Bowery with mules Cockleburr and Minnie Pearl provided comic relief. The event compared favorably with Cheyenne’s famed rodeo.

Nearly a hundred orphan raccoons prepared for the state fair after being seized from illegal adopters. Ninety six have been held at Stace Game Farm near Boose since July 1, 1951. The animals will appear in the Conservation Commission Exhibit Building, noted for their bright eyes and mischievous behavior.
Mrs. Adolph Peters marked a 75th birthday with a Saturday visit from Margaret Pollock and Lillian, followed by a Sunday surprise birthday dinner. Relatives from Hawarden Alcester Sioux City and Le Mars delivered baskets and well wishes for the occasion.

About twenty five Merrill residents attended the annual Royal Neighbor picnic at Municipal Park in Le Mars on Sunday evening July 13.
The Fire Department began its annual testing of fire hydrants last Tuesday evening. Each hydrant is checked for leaks to ensure it is in working condition in case of a fire. The department is commended for the thoroughness of the program.

Pallbearers were Eleanor Jensen, Carol Talvee, Joyce and Grace Fourney and Glenda and Janice Vanderloo. Wiltgen Lupedtke Funeral Home of Le Mars handled arrangements.
