Hog Outlook Positive for Next Eight of Nine Months
Iowa State University farm economist Francis A. Kutish, after reviewing the June pig crop report, says the hog outlook remains favorable. He cites a 2 percent drop in spring pig numbers due to poor weather and a $0.20 decline in hog prices from January to May as factors, with prices expected to hold into early fall before a modest drop in October or November. The Corn Belt shows mixed changes with fewer pigs under three months old but overall steady early hogs, suggesting continued strength into summer.
