Death of Emanuel Phillips in Plymouth County

Emanuel Phillips, a highly respected Plymouth county elder, died at his home near Hinton on Sunday morning from old age hastened by Brights disease. He was seventy six and survived by his wife, three sons John Samuel Edward and two daughters Mrs Geo Harsely and Mrs Julian Early, all living nearby. Funeral held Tuesday at ten oclock from the house and was largely attended.

Funeral Services and Akron Baseball Recap in LeMars News

Funeral services were led by Rev. Karl Kaupp of the United Evangelical Church of Melbourne. A LeMars team, largely the local high school lineup, traveled to Akron and shut out Akron's first nine 7 to 0. Honnold struck out twelve. Akron also set a strikeout record. LeMars' defense stifled scoring in every inning. The LeMars lineup featured R. Smith, J. Kistle, Srous e, Huxtable, Dieckuch, Huebsch, Dabb, Young, and Honnold pitching. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. I. Platte left for an outing at Spirit Lake’s Templar Point. A July 10 crop bulletin reports strong small grain and hay yields statewide, barley, rye, and early wheat harvesting underway in the south, rust reports are few, and county prospects look bright.

Death of Hans C Thomsen Davenport Pioneer Banker

Hans C Thomsen of Davenport died at 2 PM Wednesday from a bullet wound fired by a careless celebrator on the Fourth. Born May 24 1849 in Germany he came to Davenport 34 years ago and spent decades with the German Savings Bank. He was mourned by family and townsmen after a Saturday funeral.

Arrestee Alex Davidson Freed with Sobriety Condition

Alex Davidson, arrested last week for intoxication, is freed on condition of sobriety. A formal trial was demanded, with an October term for final determination. An order to custody pending hearing allows a writ to place him in Cherokee hospital custody if intoxicated again. Davidson, farmer on Eichhorn farm south of Remsen, advised by Judge Gaymor to go home and behave.

LeMars Ministers Oppose Carnival Resolutions Passed

The Ministerial Association of LeMars Iowa met Friday and adopted resolutions urging the mayor and city council to oppose the proposed street carnival. They call for prohibition of obscene advertising gambling beer gardens and any illegal liquor sales if the carnival is allowed. Signers include G. LeMars Edged by Hawarden in League Baseball Clash

Hawarden defeated LeMars 10 to 2 with Burwell pitching a strong game and Helmsdorfer wild in the early innings. The visitors pulled ahead with a big six and seventh inning, aided by ten walks and several errors. The standings show Hawarden now leading in the series with six wins in eleven games. A trio of births is noted: a son born to the Chausgee family near Millerville, a son to the Hoffmans south of Akron, and a daughter to the Beanceau family south of Akron.

Mr and Mrs Nic Hoffmann arrived home Tuesday after several weeks at Hot Springs South Dakota for Mr Hoffmanns health. He was greatly improved by the stay there.
