Plymouth County Board seeks 1938 emergency tax approval

The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors requests state Comptroller approval to levy a 0.375 mill emergency tax of $15,000 for 1938 to fund the Poor Fund Road Maintenance and County General Fund. The Poor Fund is overdrawn by $5,123 and road funds are at a low, with floods or extraordinary conditions anticipated. A budget hearing will be July 25, 1938 at 2 PM at the courthouse for taxpayers to comment on the county estimate of expenditures.

LeMars junior baseball squad defeated Mann Sports of Sioux City 7 to 4 on Sunday. Wiltgen pitched well, allowing six hits, while Wiltgen and Weidenfeller added two-base hits for the winners. Proposals for grading 6.0 miles and placing corrugated pipe culverts on a county trunk road between Grant and Washington Townships are due July 20, 1938. Summer Livestock Market Sees Strong Demand

On Wednesday July 18 a liberal offering of steers heifers cows calves and bulls will be joined by feeding pigs shoats boars and fat hogs. Buyers and shippers are expected to attend to purchase butcher hogs as well. Market activity remains brisk and buyers are urged to participate.
