Hoffmann returns to harvest region for work

Werner Hoffmann, long stationed in Sioux City, has returned home and will work locally during the harvest season. Bob Tieck accompanied him for a vacation visit. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Urbin hosted a Sunday dinner with guests Mr. and Mrs. John Kluver and their son, Alvin from Akron, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kluver and daughter. Mrs. H. Pech also motored to the area.

Westfield Visitors and Local Gatherings Highlight Week

Westfield Darlene Thornton returned Saturday from a week with relatives in the city. Cousins Evelyn and E. J. Thornton accompanied her home and will stay a week in the Thornton residence. Mrs. A A Lilly, post tonsillectomy recovery in Akron hospital, is recuperating at home. Darrell Luken stays with sister Mrs. Jack Reese in Brunsville while working on the highway. Ladies aid met July 8 in Congregational church parlors. A J Thornton shopped in the city Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Fay Lower and children of Bronson Iowa visited Sunday and were joined by Mr. Lower’s mother for a two week stay. John Luken attended the funeral of his brother M L Montane at St Joseph’s church in Sioux City Friday morning. Mrs. David Lilly hosted hosts at home.

Pastor Here For Many Years Dies

Longtime pastor with 12 sons and six daughters died. He was married twice, first to Margaret Lyons in 1877 and then to Sarah Lyons in 1916. Survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral Saturday July 10 at 2 30 PM from First Presbyterian Church with Rev Pfaltzgraff presiding and Rev Smith assisting. Interment in city cemetery.
