LeMars Invites Plymouth County for Patriot Day Festivities

Plymouth County towns plan Fourth of July celebrations with dances, park programs, and a mammoth circus tent venue at Cleveland park in Le Mars. The day features Gov. Hanly’s Independence Day lecture, bell ringers, music by the Le Mars band, a parade, and a ball game between White Sox and Remsen. Admission to performances is 50 cents. food and drinks priced at 5 to 25 cents.

Freeman Bernice Edmonds dies after short illness

Bernice Edmonds Freeman, aged 24, died Monday afternoon after a brief illness from dropsy. The funeral was held at the M E church Wednesday afternoon, with the Masonic Star aiding at the Marcus cemetery. She was born November 10, 1881 in Odebolt Iowa, married Herbert H. Freeman in 1905, and is remembered as a devoted wife and daughter. The community closed businesses for the service.

Hagenbeck Circus Sees Sioux City July 7 This Year

Cheap excursion rates promote Carl Hagenbeck Greater Shows a modern three ring circus for one day in Sioux City with afternoon and night performances. A morning street parade, twenty sections, hundreds of novelties, cages of exotic animals, horses and elephants, camels and zebras, four bands and calliope provide music.

Mixed doubles golf contest winds down with prizes

About thirty golf enthusiasts played in a Thursday mixed doubles event. Despite wind hampering play, the afternoon proved enjoyable. First prize went to Dr. Paul L. Brick and Milas Carrie Reichmann, with A. College and Miss Elsie Nicholson taking second. Golf clubs will be awarded to the winning ladies. Tea was served by A. G. Colpoys and assisted by Miss Nellid Boland and others.

Pioneer Plymouth county resident Henry Manz dies at 60

Henry Manz a longtime Plymouth county resident died at his Washington township home from bladder inflammation at sixty. Born in Switzerland November 17 1840 he came to Iowa at thirteen and settled in Alamakee county before moving to Plymouth in 1869. He married Margaret Carrothars December 20 1873 and leaves wife seven children and siblings John Jens Conrad Manz also attended the Merrill Methodist funeral.

Mrs Caroline Reeves Dies After Long Illness Near Seney

Mrs Caroline Reeves aged 83, long-time resident near Seney, died Saturday morning from cancer after years of suffering. Born in Kent England, she came to this county 37 years ago with her husband who died 25 years ago. Survived by four sons and one daughter: Mrs John Trigg of Doon, Arthur Reeves, John Reeves, Robert Reeves, George Reeves, all near Seney. Funeral Monday at 10:30 at the Seney Methodist church conducted by Rev Kernen, church filled with mourners.

Fourteen-year-old Elmer Cavanaugh breaks left arm

Elmer Cavanaugh, a teen, climbed a tree at Cleveland park with other boys when Will Dack pulled him from the branches. He struck his left wrist, breaking a bone. He previously lost almost his right arm in an accident over eight years ago. He walked to Dr Fattes' office for setting and is recovering.

Reichmann Leaves LeMars for New Home near Burke

Chas Reichmann, longtime LeMars resident and former printer, departed Tuesday for Burke South Dakota to establish a new home. He purchased a relinquishment of a fine claim near Burke and plans to live there while maintaining ties to the printing trade to ease loneliness.

Grass stock selling stronger but in limited supply. Prospects for higher prices through the week. Choice steers 5.10 to 5.50. Cows and heifers 3.30 to 4.60. Hogs steady around 6.30 to 6.45. Sheep and lambs commanding strong prices. first range sheep from Idaho sold at 5.80, the highest price yet for that stock.
