Kenneth Holmberg, manager of the Rock Valley Independent Lumber Company, died from a broken neck after falling on basement steps beside the Holtdorf Cafe in Hudson, South Dakota. The death was ruled accidental by the coroner as investigators probe the eight hour lapse before discovery. He had come to Hudson with two companions to celebrate a wedding. he was unmarried and had moved to Rock Valley about a year ago. The cafe was formerly Seals Tavern, built by Seal Van Sickle and recently purchased by B. T. Holtdorf.
Kingsley residents Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Johnson will visit their daughter Mrs. Ruth May and family in Cleveland and Erie Penn until mid July. They then sail from New York aboard Grips holm for a Sweden visit and plan to tour Norway Denmark and possibly France before returning this fall. The couple, who came to the U S forty two years ago, will see Johnson’s two brothers and other relatives in their homeland. Alyce Weekly of Omaha returned home after visiting Henry Holland's family here. Beatrice Hammer of Sioux City visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. H. Holland. Mrs. F. J. Spain and son Pat visited in Sioux City with Mrs. J. Hamill and others.
Iris growers report that bacterial soi t rot causes bearded irises to lose leaves. Horticulturist Larry Grove of Iowa State College recommends cutting away water soaked leaves, sterilizing tools, dug up diseased rhizomes, and using Semesan solution to sterilize soil before replanting.
