Special Correspondent reports Russell Wingert of Morningside spent the weekend with parents seeking medical help. Lester Witt, 23, died after an auto crash and back injuries. Rev L C Schroeder led funeral services in Kingsley Congregational Church, and Witt was buried beside his mother in Holstein. Community notes cover births and local visits, school events, and social gatherings across Kingsley and surrounding areas.
Many farmers busy cutting wood. Mrs Fred Calkins and son Lloyd visit Minnesota. Raymond Lafferty and family visit cousin from Anthon Iowa. Mrs Ed Hollenberg home from St Vincent's hospital after two weeks. Mr and Mrs August Krause at J Mencke home. Several couples visit Chas Hte home Friday. Ferol Buright visits Soux City Monday. Geo Casper family take Lloyd for eye exam in Sioux City. Miss Harrison assists E Hollenberg. Hans Barnholtz from Leeds visits. Lou Richardson sick list. Harrison family visit Leeds. Lite family attend funeral of Mrs Keen at Lincoln Catholic church. Litzmann-Thill wedding attended. Grandma Richardson visiting Moville. Clayton Woolridge visits Hinton.
In Grant Township, John Hartman and family visited the Martin Croon home Monday evening while Elmer Tucker called at Fred Plueger’s house Tuesday morning. John Lubben and family made business calls in LeMars Tuesday and John Johnson and family visited Dick Plueger Sunday afternoon. Chris Johnson works for John Johnson north of Craig, and Mayne Luschen with wife and Herman Schultz and family were social visitors in the area.
A funeral was held Thursday for the infant son of Mr and Mrs Abraham Miller at the Presbyterian church. Visitors dropped by the Jim Kirk home in Ruble and the Martin Johnson home, with others stopping at Henry Plueger and Mrs Plueger to mark her birthday. Folks also attended events near Hinton and Le Mars, while Irene Borchers and Tena Johnson enjoyed a Sioux City Orpheum outing.
Liberty Center reports Frank McMahon as assessor again while Florence and Frances Keller have started work in Liberty after school in Akron. A large turnout attended the farmers elevator meeting in Hinton with a fine dinner. Liberty basketball beat Westfield 20 to 12 and defeated Salix 37 to 6. Liberty routed Treton 33 to 2, and faces Luton and Union next. Kenneth Trometer returns to school with crutches. Val Trometer recovering at home. Prof A T Holtgen visited Ames briefly.
A son was born to Mr and Mrs Will Baack Jr on Thursday Jan 20. The Herman Berg sale drew a fair crowd despite cold weather with household goods selling well and the house sold to N R Schliesser. Chas Baack returned from Howard SD after a week tending farm interests and reports an 80 case scarlet fever outbreak there. Frank Long completed 20 years as mailman last Saturday praising his service. N R Schlesser hauled cattle to Sioux City on Friday. Mrs Kasch of Laverne Minn visiting the Baack home and meeting her new grandson. Mrs John Schlesser and Mrs Nic Schlesser rode to Sioux City Saturday. Miss Mabel Nicholson visited Sioux City Friday. Hugo Welnitz of Ireton was a Struble caller Thursday. Mrs Helena Weis and family left Saturday for Alton and Granville before southward travel. Katharine Delperdang hosted a young folks gathering Sunday evening. Maurice Edwards of Sioux City visited his mother Nellie Edwards Saturday. George Plendl of Stanton was a business visitor Monday at the Ruhland home. Willie Baack visited Hawarden Monday, with Mr and Mrs Chester McDougall and
Ireton and nearby communities report a string of visits and travel. Floyd Taylor, Mrs Taylor and family visited Hawarden to be with Taylor's mother Mrs W J Taylor. Ben Vonk drove a load of lambs to the Sioux City market. Miss Henrietta Borgman of Sioux Center stayed at Roy DeBoer’s. John Biensbergan returned from four months in Holland and notes Europe’s winter flu epidemic. Valley Ladies Circle shared a social and business meeting with needlework and luncheon. Center Township federation elected officers Herman Hagge pres, Ring Van der Schoff vice pres, R S Miller sec. Truman Watkins visited from Hamberg and the Alcester bank reopened with 50,000 assets. Martin Nanninga and Fred Manning households hosted visitors. Lena Warntjes returned home from farm work. Walter DeVries visited relatives in Fairview and Hudson. Peter DeVries injured feeding hogs when hogs charged and tripped him. Rev Steincamp preached at Lutheran church. E A Atwood visited Sioux City. Mrs Dannebrink is seriously ill. The VanderHamm child is ill. a trained nurse is employed. J Ellerbrock joined his wife in town. they returned home. Mrs Wm Taylor and daughter visit Mrs Wm Irwin in Sioux City. The infant of Henry Marineau is ill. A T Stafford and John Virthe Jr. and daughter shopped in Sioux City. Ned Kluter’s little daughter is ill with erysipelas.
S E Washington and others visited relatives in nearby homes. Dozens of residents including Hans Nielson Adeline Reynolds Louis Lemke A Van Steenwyk and Harms families attended dances and visited friends in LeMars and nearby towns last week.
Be ers were callers in the Ed Harms home Sunday. The afternoon was spent in playing cards. At 4 a delicious lunch was served. Miss Millie Harms was a LeMars caller Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Bowers and son were callers in this vicinity one day last week. Albert and Fred Harms shelled corn for Herman Melis Monday. D. Redman was a LeMars caller. Albert Harms visited with his brother George of Akron Tuesday.
