Iowa signup announced for 1967 farm programs

The Iowa ASC announces a five week signup for 1967 feed grain and wheat programs starting January 30 and ending March 3. CAP enrollment began December 1, 1966 and also ends March 3. Farmers must file intentions to participate to qualify for payments and loans. information is available at county ASCS offices.

Kingsley man wins VFW merit award at district conclave

Harold A. Mulford, 67, of Kingsley received the VFW merit award and medal from James Schmidt at the Sioux City convention. Mulford is credited with saving Mrs. Clara DeLambert, 85, from a burning Kingsley area farmhouse on February 6 last year. About 190 VFW and auxiliary members from 110 northwest Iowa counties attended.

Union FB Women Host Jan Meeting and Election

Mrs. L Dempster hosted the Union Farm Bureau women on January 19 at 2 p m. She was elected chairwoman and opened the meeting with a poem. The group discussed the year book, foreign student weekend plans, and a skit about saving money. Lunch was served and the next meeting is February 15 at Mrs Earl Morton’s home.

Social Security credits boost farm earnings reporting

Farmers may now gain social security credits up to 1600 a year even with losses. John R. Goldman of the Social Security Administration explains the optional method for reporting earnings, available to farmers. Paul H. Patterson will be at the Le Mars courthouse February 2 to help. The Iowa Christian Institute for church laymen and pastors is set for February 6 at Iowa State University Ames, with sessions on community action, food production, social issues, and interfaith cooperation. Plymouth county residents are invited.
