Sioux Center News urges strong action against Rep. Adam Clayton Powell over alleged misuse of position and ethical violations. It argues Congress must uphold law and morals, calling for a whistleblowing house cleaning to restore public faith and prevent societal decay.
The state says southern Iowa has more parks because it has better material for parks, leaving northwest Iowa poorer and more sparsely settled with fewer parks. The writer questions this logic and contrasts it with the fire department’s approach to such thinking.
Cecil H. Lang of Hinton topped Plymouth county in Tekseed High Yield Award with 170 bushels per acre on non irrigated land using Tekseed TS33. Dr. Mona Bomgaars departed Tuesday for Stony Point New York to begin six months at Missionary Orientation Center before assignment to a foreign mission field. She was accompanied by her parents Mr and Mrs Anie Bomgaars. Mrs Bruce Mauer traveled to Seattle for a two week visit with her mother Arlene Gunther. The 62nd General Assembly considers an academy to train law enforcement officers with land and construction costs around 1 million dollars. A 10 percent increase in state criminal fines is proposed to fund ongoing operations, echoing a near passage in 1965. Federal funds from President Johnson may boost state training efforts.
A council would advise the governor on academy site choices in Iowa City Des Moines or Cedar Rapids. Hearings begin Tuesday on reorganizing state government into 13 departments led by Sen Lee Gaudineer as chair. Bills now to be typed by the legislative research bureau under new rules.
