Wedding at Ovens Juel Morn Draws Big Crowd

A joint gathering of the Ovens social club and the KC’s in Columbia hall drew a large turnout with 600 as the pastime during the Thursday night event. A new entertainment committee was appointed and prizes for high scores were awarded. Six social hours followed with a card party scheduled for January 20.

Sioux City visitors Sunday evening are noted with Mrs. Alva Blackston of Mitchell visiting at the Lehner and Blackston homes. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bolton hosted 100 guests for a neighborhood party with games and a bountiful lunch. Uncle James McCartney is ill and a nurse attends him. George Haggan Sr. is quarantined for smallpox. Union floor basketball hosts Akron on Friday and a calendar of two months of school events includes Le Mars, Akron, St. Marys Remsen, Pierson, Grand Meadow, home declamatory contest, and state tournament rounds.

George Meyers Injured In Ice Fall At Home

George Meyers fell on ice at his home Thursday night and broke both bones above the wrist. Dr. Wendell treated his injuries at home and then transported him to the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City where the bones were set. He is resting as well as could be expected but in considerable pain.

Union School Notes on Exams and Tuition Policy

The regular examinations will occur Thursday and Friday, closing the first semester. An annual declamatory contest is planned for February 18 with 14 entrants. Non district patrons must pay tuition within one week after the new semester opens. the superintendent will act if payment is not made.

Cass resigns as Hanford Produce manager for Devaney Feed

M A Cass Jr announces resignation as manager of Hanford Produce Company to devote full time to Devaney Feed and Grinding company. Cass is well known in LeMars and will have broad patronage from friends. Devaney Feed and Grinding, established after the Plymout h mill fire, is doing good business with F J Devaney as manager. The new member of the firm is expected to be of great assistance.
