LeMars readers in Sioux City thank the Globe-Post for renewing subscriptions and continuing to enjoy the hometown paper. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Krega of 133 Sioux St, Sioux City, Iowa, express appreciation and vow to stay loyal readers.
Funeral services for Paul Ritter were held at 1:30 p m Monday at St Johns Lutheran Church with Rev A L Belk officiating for the well known local farmer who died Thursday after a heart attack Pallbearers were August Kam man R B Dalton Henry Heid brink Chris Miller Frank Stamp and Gordon Stokes Ritter son of Mr and Mrs Franz Ritter was born October 25 1888 in Saxony Germany.
A man who grew to adulthood in Germany before moving to the United States settled first in Marcus and later in Stanton township where he farmed successfully for many years. He and Elma Hessel married around 1904 and raised five children: Rose Mack of Glendale California, Lillie Knittel of Brewster Minnesota, Herman of Marcus, Viola, and Erma Ritter of Glendale California. He also had brothers and sisters living in Germany.
Serious charges were filed in municipal court against Zena Smith and Francis Slater for an assault Saturday night on three people. The report ties to an alleged holdup incident involving local victims including Jack Kaufman, a prior grain truck accident survivor, with lingering rumors from LeMars.

Smith identified a suspect Slater later arrested. injuries varied from cuts to a Jez injury. all hospitalized briefly. Bail set at 16000 each pending Friday hearing.

Dr D M Harris will address the sixth meeting of the adult home economics class on communicable and social diseases. Harris, medical director of Public Health District One, serves Plymouth and nearby counties and arrived in LeMars July 1 to replace Dr H H Ennis. Paul Burson of Iowa State College will discuss Pasture Improvement at the Farmers Evening School next Monday.
Westfield suffered a second straight loss as St Joe held off a late Westfield rally 26 to 23. Germain Robinette led St Joe with 12 points on six field goals, while Ralph Wiltgen and Swalley paced Westfield with 6 and 11 respectively. Box scores show a defensive battle as St Joe pulled away in the final minutes.
Rock Rapids group Little German Band drawn into ASCAP BMI feud as only five of over 100 works may be aired on KSOO next Sunday. Program by Lowell Albertus features Karl L King pieces from K Z L Music House. station fears heavy fines for revised pieces.
Sioux City boxer Wilbur De Cora 25 held for death of Preach Myers. He fought Meyers in Colden Gloves bouts once popular draws. De Cora arrested Sunday, jailed at Pender Nebraska by Sheriff Rey E Wott. Sheriff says De Cora struck Louis Buchanan veteran in October 13 Winnebago Indian reserve fight.
The blow knocked Buchanan down and fractured his skull, dying three days later at Winnebago agency hospital. De Cora was arrested after testimony from 30 to 40 people. He faces felonious assault charges with a possible 1 to 10 year term, alleged to have intended only a beating rather than a killing. De Cora, a noted hard hitter, often met his match in battles with Myers.
A new state assessment for livestock has been received since the last assessors meeting. Changes include higher values for 1 and 2 year old horses and lower values for older horses and mules. Cattle and swine mainly unchanged while sheep rise. State figures list Colts 1 year 30 dollars 2 years 45 3 years 70. Mules 1 year 30 2 years 45 3 years 70. Cattle feeding 6 to 9. Patrons of the school engage in a fundraising drive to construct a much needed Physical Education building. The project aims to attract more students to Western Union college and the town of LeMars, with business and professional men driving support and pledges urged to reach a successful conclusion.
The LeMars Bulldogs beat Coach Vickerstaff's Rock Rapids squad Tuesday to push their season record to eight straight wins. After a slow start trailing 5 to 4 in the first quarter, LeMars surged in the second period with set up shots from Keihn and Meis.
Rollinger scored twice from the Hey throw to give the locals a 14 7 lead at halftime. Keihn and Witt anchored the defense as Rock Rapids narrowed the gap to 33 21 at the final horn. Keihn led the locals with 12 points, Bollinger added nine, Olsen led Rock Rapids with eight. The locals next face Vermillion new schol in a conference game then Hawarden in a key tri state clash.
Glenn Breitharth, a patient at Akron hospital, returned home to Ruble on Tuesday. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Andy Morgan of Moville on January 2. Dr J P McGowan treated Mary Margaret with a tonsillectomy at Harlan with Mrs McGowan in attendance. Numerous Seney children and others were ill or recovering from operations across area hospitals and clinics, including Roy Hutton, M Pete Haas, Marjorie Mulder, Don Brangwin, Leonard Recknagel, Henry Kaskie, Chris Miller, Betty Deviney, Kathryn Kuehn, Guy Jensen, Lavonne Beemer, Mrs Stack Smoraswki, and Wm Tuenissen. Birth announcements list a girl for William Fokken of Kingsley on January 9, a boy for H W Pecks of Le Mars on January 9, and a boy for Lawrence Reistroffer of Le Mars on January 4.
Westfield report notes Lon Tracy visiting Salix relatives with Mrs Arthur Adams and family while Tommy Tracy and guests stay in the P F Tracy home. Lorna Worth from Onawa spends part of vacation with her parents south of town. The Beaubien families host New Year guests Ed and Catherine Conway also with Beaubien relatives in Sioux.
North Washington resident Miss Mildred Eggebrecht visited Sioux City Tuesday to see Roy Edwards at his home. Klave grandchildren LaVonne, LaDonna, and Jerlois spent part of Christmas vacation with their grandfather Wm. Klave in LeMars. Alfred Hartman family and Wendt relatives celebrated Christmas at Schulz and Wayne Neb. A dancing party marked birthdays for Mrs. Gus Wendt and Mrs. Ewald Ball. Junior choir held a Christmas party after noon with games and lunch. Grant Hanstein hosted a card club gathering. Mrs. Maurice Vernon and Doris Rose visited Henry Luschen over the weekend. George Oller family spent Christmas with Eddie Baach near Struble. Walter Oller enjoys Christmas with his grandfather Henry Cramer.
Mr and Mrs Hoya Gallana and daughter Jewell of Cushing were dinner guests at the Lyle Galland home on New Year’s Day. Miss the trade conlee of ea Jo wa spent New Year’s Ame home with her parents Rev and Mrs F H Voelker. Miss Hermina Baack visiting Herman Baack at Merrill. Teo Schmidt and children returned Sunday from Nokomis where they were with Mrs Schmidt’s mother Mrs Margaret DeWert. They left Mrs DeWert improved. Eliott moved Sunday to the home of his agents Mr and Mrs M I B iott. The Fetts moved to the house they vacated and which they recently bought.
A Morey milk truck driven by Don Zimmerman collided at an intersection three miles west of Ireton on the Perry Creek road with a car driven by James O Meara. Mrs. O Meara was slightly injured. Both vehicles were badly damaged. The accident occurred on Christmas.
The W C T U basketball squad reports for daily drills after a holiday recess and plans a road trip this weekend. First Iowa conference game at home versus St Ambrose on January 11, with two league games on January 9 and 10. Coach Crayne expects six letter men, and the college community notes holiday entertaining by faculty members and staff.
