Born Feb 18 1889 near Pierson later farmed near Remsen. Funeral services Sunday afternoon with church rites and interment in Remsen cemetery.
Donald G. Reistroffer and Bonnie Jean Ostert of LeMars have secured a marriage license in a formal proceeding. The couple plans to wed soon, signaling a forthcoming nuptial event in the community.
Kingsley area accident victims Paul Paulson and Mr and Mrs Alf Paulson of Los Angeles are recovering in a Sioux City hospital after a collision near Kingsley on No 140 last week. Paulson received deep facial cuts requiring nine stitches. The Evangelical Lutheran church bought the Jennie Hamil residence and Rev Wherspaan plans to move in soon. Miss Amy Mattson and Harold Mulford Jr announced their betrothal at Morningside College Christmas ball. Miss Dorothy Campbell of Anthon earned a nursing degree from the University of Iowa in November and visited Grace and Wilson Campbell homes at Christmas. The Pratt couple were noted in a partial page continuation.
Representatives of the Motor Club of Towns from across the state met in Des Moines on May 4 to discuss the club's road program. Rhodes announced plans for an all weather road to every Iowa farm and changes in highway taxes and licensing. The club favors a 1 percent license tax on all cars, raising plates costs, and opposes increases in gas tax. Since 1931, Iowa has had a clear distance law and debates continue on secondary road bonds versus gas tax funding for roads.
Roland LeRoy Seely, 43, farm worker at George Bohlke’s, returned from New Year’s visit and collapsed in the driveway about 1 a.m. He was found frozen about 9 a.m. by a milk truck driver. Seely, born July 8, 1887, in Union County S D, survived by five brothers and one sister. Funeral plans pending word from relatives. a Saturday service is anticipated.

Sioux City man Harlan Jones on No 73 failed to signal a left turn near Merrill. Addison E Ruby Storm Lake driver was passing when Jones swung. Ruby’s car hit Jones and went into a ditch causing about 100 dollars damage while Jones’ car suffered about 50 dollars. Jones admitted he did not signal the turn to Patrolman Walter Lentz.
Milo N. Bohrke of Remsen and Joe O. Versigger of Hospers have filed their discharges from the armed services with the draft board, signaling completion of military service requirements.
The Driscoll Boosters defeated Hinton 55 to 41 at Le Mars High School gym. Clement led with 25 points while Riter scored 90 points and Fred Biss added 8. Early paced Hinton with 13 points, F Jones had 10. Also noted: St Joseph Alumni fell 35-25 to Merrill, a strong season to date.
An icy intersection at Floyd avenue and Arthur street in Sioux City was blamed for a car pedestrian crash that injured 4 year old Margaret Anne Russell of 4516 Arthur street. Driver Robert E Heimgartner 18 of Le Mars Iowa said his car skidded while stopping behind a streetcar. Heimgartner took Margaret to her home for treatment.
J C Eichhorn 51 a former Sioux City attorney who left in 1821 died unexpectedly Tuesday at his Oskaloosa Iowa home. Born September 21 1895 in Remsen Ia he was World War I veteran and University of Iowa LLB. Survived by widow Gladys son John daughter Patricia two brothers and three sisters. Funeral 2 pm Friday in Oskaloosa with burial there.
Mr and Mrs Wm Utech of Worthington Minnesota formerly of LeMars celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec 31 at home. A large gathering of children, grandchildren, and great grandchild attended with gold décor, a three tier cake, and a money bouquet. They were married Dec 31 1896 in Wausau Wisconsin and retired to Worthington in 1943 after farming near LeMars.
Sacred Heart hospital recently acquired a Gordon Armstrong incubator donated by the imi-T club of LeMays in memory of Patricia Boylan. The unit features automatic thermo switch, glass viewing sides, and UL approval for oxygen use, aiding premature infant care. The hospital thanks Chapter AO of the Tri-T club for the gift.
The LeMars Glove Post LeMars Sentinel and Remsen Bell Enterprise were appointed official Plymouth county newspapers by the board of supervisors for 1947. No contest occurred this year and none for thirty years. If more than three apply, selection hinges on circulation.
Phyliss Johnson and Alvin Frisk, both of Akron, exchanged vows at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on New Year's Day at 2:30. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Janssen of Ireton celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on December 29. About 60 guests attended with music and games, a midnight lunch, and the couple’s Jan 12 wedding date noted for their 25 years. Their son Pfc Lester Janssen on furlough from Ft. Bragg joined the celebration, with guests including Mr. and Mrs. J H Buchholz and daughter Esther of Breckenridge Minnesota traveling from afar.

The park board and Le Mars Recreation Committee refurbished a hockey and skating rink at New Deal park south lake. The ice will be lighted at night and free for users with a warming shed, benches, and a hot stove. Maintenance runs until about Feb 1 if interest remains.
The named men Milo Bholke of Remsen and Joe A Wersinger of Hospers were discharged from the United States service. Mrs Paulson was struck by glass and initially feared to lose an eye but is recovering. Her husband Alf Paulson suffered severe injuries, five ribs broken and internal injuries after being thrown against the steering wheel.
Le Mars celebrates six years and one day without a fatal accident inside city limits as officials recall near misses on the boundary. The last fatal crash occurred New Year’s Eve around 10:30 p m when Harvey Fickertt was struck and dragged by a vehicle driven by F X Dominick.
