Consumers of soda fountain products ceased paying the government 30 percent fractional parts of cent to constitute 1 cent yesterday when a large number of war taxes were taken off the products. The tax on soda fountain products was the most noted and taxes on railroad tickets and other charges were also removed as big shippers monitor freight rate readjustments with keen interest.
LeMars men top Sioux City hog market with large loads
J G Selbena of LeMars offered seventy four hogs averaging 193 pounds and topping the market at 7.10 dollars. Carl Loos of LeMars brought sixty eight hogs averaging 205 pounds that sold at 7.05 dollars.

Ben Schuh, son of Mr and Mrs Ben Schuh formerly of Fifth and Madison, started a welding and machine repair shop in the Pech foundry building. He will weld items that can be Machined off in the foundry machine shop. Schuh lived in LeMars seven years ago and worked as a welder in oil fields near Nowata Oklahoma. He now resides at 804 Sixth street. John G Friedrich and his son Frank of Akron visited LeMars on business today.

Motor Stalled On Railroad Crossing
A son of F. M. Rollins, living south of town, is in serious condition at a Bronx Cy hospital after a train struck his truck at Shearon's crossing near the Shearon farm. The view along Merrill road is said unobstructed. the motor’s stall may have contributed. The hog in the rear was thrown about a hundred feet as the truck was demolished. recovery is possible. Also a son was born to Mr and Mrs Richard Jenson of Neptune last Tuesday.

Gambler Arrest Reciprocated in City Court Case
G A Taber and R Jenkins were arrested on warrants from Mayor John Cooper's court for gambling at the Brunswick hotel. They pled guilty and paid fines. In retaliation they charged Bert Rollinger with selling intoxicating liquor. Rollinger's case moved to Justice Koenig, bound over to the grand jury, bonds set at $200, and he remains in custody. Police say Rollinger invited the game, sold liquor to the players, and lost heavily.

Anna Lees Braun 81 with 7 months and 10 days died at her son Frank Braun’s home east of the city on the Sixth street road at 9 15 this morning. Cause pleurisy complications and old age. Funeral at St Joseph’s church Wednesday 10am with interment in St Joseph’s cemetery. Born May 22 1841 in Melongen Luxemburg she came to America at 5, lived in Cascade Exira Iowa City and Ottumwa. Survived by two daughters Sister Alberta of Ottumwa and Mrs Anna Bauer of Iowa City and two sons Frank and John Braun.

Raid Bags Giant Stills and Liquor Near Woodbury Line
Sheriff Maxwell and deputies seized mammoth stills and over fifty gallons of liquor from two farms in western Woodbury County last week. Three farmers Tom Keck R H Britton and Margaret Brennan were arrested charged with maintaining a nuisance and manufacturing intoxicating liquor. They waived examination and were bound over to the grand jury with bonds at 700 each. The trio said they worked for another party and bootleggers have been getting about ten dollars a gallon in Sioux City.
