Residents near Mason City described a large black cat seen near a farm home east of Remsen. The animal left 28 to 30 inch tracks in the snow and was witnessed by several people, with authorities also reporting tracks suggesting a big cat.
An Iowa association study compares fire protection costs among 23 cities of various sizes. Cedar Rapids and Waterloo show high per capitas at 4.77 and 4.60 dollars, while Sioux City and Council Bluffs are low at 3.51 and 3.83 dollars. William Walker aged 25 and his father Roy Walker died in a car crash near Lusk Wyoming on Saturday November 30. William born April 20 1925 in Lusk leaves Hazel Bullington Walker and siblings Lois Joyce and Beverly as survivors. Dexter Montague McQuin born September 27 1875 in Norway Iowa died December 7 in Cherokee age 75 years 2 months 10 days. He lived on the Alton township home farm 67 years and was active in Congregational church Farm Bureau and community affairs. Survived by five sisters and a sister in law. preceded by parents one sister and brother Raymond.

Two people, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Van Den Oever of Sheldon Iowa, were injured at 2 15 Tuesday afternoon when their 1942 Chevrolet was struck by an Illinois Central switch engine and then by a passenger train. They were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with head cuts bruises and eye injury. The car was demolished and displaced about 100 feet toward the depot.
Fred Tippery twenty three of Sioux City was apprehended by Kingsley police after attempting to steal a Ford Truck generator on a main Kingsley street. He ran when spotted, was shot at by officers and then halted. He is held in the Le Mars county jail.
Members of an American Legion and Lions club committee announced a free admission debate on isolationism versus internationalism at Le Mars High School on January 10. Debaters Col. James O. Babcock and R. F. Starzl will answer all questions without evasion, with audience members invited to challenge any point. Prominent figures such as Truman, Acheson, Hoover, Kennedy, Dewey and Dulles are referenced as having spoken on the topic.
